What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIII)

2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;
Joshua Redman - "Wish" (1993)
On CD:-
Asia - Phoenix
Susan Werner - Last of the Good Straight Girls
This is rather nice, if a little fluffy in places. Susan doesn't have the greatest range to her voice but it has a lovely quality to it. There is some lovely songwriting on here too.

Some great bluegrass to go with this ladies lovely voice.
This afternoon I read an article about the Criss Cross Jazz label. In that article several artist where mentioned, amongst others Misha Tsiganov. I had never heard of him so I checked him out on Tidal. I really enjoyed his music. It's nice music in a jazz-bob style.
Great returns from young chap.
Seahawks. Paradise freaks.
cosmic deck shoe gazing.
Fink - Fink's Sunday Night Blues Club.
Bought this, following a recommendation from Jeff Anderson, of this parish.
I posted it a couple of days back, but since I can't seem to stop playing it, it's well worth posting again.
Superb trance blues from a UK artist .................... a winner for all Otis Taylor fans ...................... it's on Tidal............ .....................go on, have a listen...............'s brilliant!
Bear's Den - "Islands (Deluxe)" (2016) disc 2 - Live At Melkweg, love this band, great harmonies, a sound not unlike Fleet Foxes. good stuff.

Good old original Brit' prog rock in the Canterbury School style. This was both their debut and final album but don't let that put you off giving it a try if your in a prog mood and enjoy the likes of Camel, Caravan, it was a good record. I still don't know why they never got to at least record a second album?
Thelonious Monk (with Sonny Rollins, Ernie Henry, Oscar Pettiford, Max Roach, Clark Terry and Paul Chambers).
Anais Mitchell - "Young Man In America" (2012)

(1971)
Because it's one of those 'must listen to' albums that I have to get out on a regular basis. Tony McPhee's guitar work blew me away at the time and it still hits the spot. Played LOUD naturally...

Jeff, I am enjoying this very much.
Great shout.
Space Debris - Three
A new discovery for me. They're a current German band, well known on the festival circuit there, and they play a bluesy Hammond/guitar rock that's a pure throwback to the early 70s. There are (effectively) no vocals, just fine, powerful jamming with the guitar on the Hendrix-influenced scale, and the organist (here, they later changed personnel) clearly inspired by a glorious combination of Vincent Crane and Brian Auger.
I've just begun to explore their output (last night I cleared the house with their latest Behind The Gate) on Bandcamp
In addition to the two above give the Finkenbach 2012 a blast - particularly Demons
Frankie Goes to Hollywood - Welcome to the Pleasuredome.
After all that Sparks merriment t' other night, some further larfs with Frankie & Co. .......... it's all good.
John Lee Hooker: The Healer. CD rip. Wonderful. Simple as that!
Alanis Morisette, Jagged Little Pill, WAV CD Rip.
Because I have had a NAC-N272 warming up for a week and wanted to really listen to an album I love and know very well. I am not going to attempt to describe the difference in sound, suffice to say I LOVE what the 272 brings and I thought the 172XS was superb.
Yazoo - Upstairs at Eric's.
Stuck in that '80s groove, I'm afraid.
I have the first box set, so thought I'd treat myself to this one as well (both vinyl), so just starting my way through it.
Television - Marquee Moon. (1977). CD rip. Forgotten what a good album this is. Used to a have 12" green vinyl EP of "Venus / Prove It" many moons ago.

Her best album. If you like it then try Eliza Gilkyson's Hard Times in Babylon album you might like it (assuming you may not have heard it)
Succumbed to the Qobuz hires bargain offer.
First play. This was 99p well spent in the Dutton Vocalion sale.
