2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.

Last year's thread can be found here;

I am a little glum at the moment, so put this on the cheer me up. It's beautifully played and the recording is lovely, with none of that ten foot wide piano effect you sometimes get. Clearly the music has special powers, as the sun's just come out. The album is the third of the series, and is newly released on Hyperion. It probably has the most understated cover possible, quite unusual in a world where young female violinists seem so often to be presented as Vogue covershoots.

Solid 'bob' jazz from the Criss Cross label.

I purchased this many years ago and didn't get on with it at that time, so I thought I'd give it another spin. Just realised that it's certainly not a record to play when the mother-in-law comes to visit!

This is safer and a lot more civilised!

John Mellencamp. Freedom's Road. On CD from 2007. Johnny Cougar, John Cougar and John Cougar Mellencamp were always well-recorded with great dynamic range. About the time he became John Mellencamp the loudness wars happened and he fell prey. Still the same artist, still well-recorded, still great music, but this album is unfortunately compressed to the hilt. I don't think it was ever set to vinyl.

New album due out within the next few weeks.

Hard to know what to play after the new Goldfrapp, so going with something from the 'Tops when they were raking in the cash big time.

Leaping ahead seven years fromEliminator toRecycler. This was five years in the making since Afterburner 1985, possibly because the boys were too busy taking their gas axes to their various Ferraris and converting them into pick ups fit for tooling around in Texas!!

Original vinyl

Why? I fancied something rocky but different.
