2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;
1st run of his new album. An artist truely modernizing jazz...
Silver Eye by Goldfrapp, on signed CD:
I'm gradually working my way through these recordings by the Busch String Quartet, having found them all for £2.99 each in the Dutton Vocalion sale. So they are 1930s-1940s recordings, yet the SQ is remarkably good. But what really sets these apart is the playing, the emotion, the feel. Whatever you call it, it is clear that these players were really in touch with what Beethoven intended. And if it wasn't what he intended, it's what really works. I cannot recommend these highly enough.
NICK DRAKE Bryter Layter (2013 UK 9-track LP pressed on 180 gram vinyl as part of the Back To Black series, originally released on Island in 1970
They published five new live recordings of the man on LiveJazzLounge, enjoying it now

First listen on vinyl. Sounds a decent album with good variety in a similar vein to Wolflight and plenty of guitar. Looking forward to cranking up the volume when I can get an empty house.

1st run..
So now onto volume three. The playing is just so perfect. Marvellous stuff!
The instrumental version from the superb 'Weatherbox' collection. Beautifully recorded sumptuous sounds.

Wilko Johnson - I Keep It To Myself / The Best Of.
Wilko re-does many of his hits over this double album, ably assisted by Norman Watt-Roy and Dylan Howe.
Just the thing for a gloomy, overcast North Yorks. afternoon.
Rock on Wilko, goan yersel' son!
CANNED HEAT Let's Work Together - The Best Of (1989 UK 16-track LP compilation, including the boogie-hits Going' Up The Country, Let's Work Together & On the Road Again....
