One of his earlier works. A bit more towards the pop side.

In need of something nice and easy to kick back to and this always makes for chilled listening, I always enjoy the sound Tunde's voice.

On SHMCD

(1978 | 2008)

Interested to see that this is an SHMCD version - be interested to hear your views on the sound vs standard CD...

Hi David, I'm not going to be a great help to you as I no longer have the original red book CD for comparison (it was stolen along with the rest of my music some time ago), this was its replacement a few years ago. However, I remember thinking when I got the platinum SHM that it did sound better than I remembered my original. It's hard to recall with the intervening years so, after seeing your question I listened to a remastered version of the album (via Tidal) and then played my SHM on the CDP. No question to my ears that the platinum SHM is superior having more range and depth top to bottom.

Looking back at the notes this CD is a HR cutting from the DSD master which was newly flat transferred from UK original analogue master tapes in 2013 (not 2008 as I mistakenly said on the original posting). The dynamic range (DR) of the platinum SHM-CD is good at 15 (almost 16) which does suggest that my ears were hearing correctly and my memory is not playing tricks...

I have only ever bought a few SHM-CDs and platinum SHM-CDs, usually of my favourite albums and I have never regretted the additional cost, the SQ has justified it. If you need a steer as to where to get this and other SHM-CDs just let me know (here) and I'll give you a link. Currently retailing for £26 / $33.

Edie Brickell - Volcano

Haven't listened to this for ages. Sounds pretty cool today.

I only played this once when I bought it and obviously wasn't in the right frame of mind to appreciate it, but for some reason was thinking about it last night. Now playing it again, some two months later, I'm finding it to be a rather pleasant folk album indeed.

I bough Carol King's Tapestry album from a record dealer's market stall for £10 (never paid more than £5 at Oxfam) last October. All nicely packaged etc., but was quite disappointed with the replay. However, having invested in the Loricraft Profession Record Clearer (PRC) 4, which comes with L'Art du Son concentrated cleaning agent, I can now truly agree with it being a great album.

The PRC4 really brings out the low frequencies and the finer detail (backings and higher harmonics). In fact listening to Vangelis' Chariots of Fire I was amazed at some of the really low frequency notes. When listening before to Tapestry her voice was a bit mellow (and therefore dull), but now the extra details makes a lot of difference. The backings are also more in balance.

Feeling very happy now, and enjoying the music. As an outlay the PRC4 gives far more than  a major upgrade, because it gives you the music. Also there is no surface noise.

My favourite album of theirs G. No idea why they don't like it - although Nick Mason seems to be softening his position.

A bit too artistic and airy to my taste. That's where ECM music sometimes goes one step too far....
