What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIII)

2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;
The EP was promising, the full album rather average..., as Fan I might still get it...., but I hoped for more...
It's different and sometimes an attractive new insight on music many of us now so well...
Oasis. Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants. On Creation Records CD from 2000 with limited edition bonus import CD. Compressed to the hilt; however, that sonic fits well with the ethereal sound of this album. Trippy, musical, and easy to get lost in.
Eric Clapton. 461 Ocean Boulevard. On original vinyl from 1974. My favorite of the EC albums in my collection. Highlights his talent with a great groove in every track.

absolutely terrific, thanks Bert..
When I want to listen to Chopin's ballads I most of the time turn to Freddy Kempf.
Yes, he plays them (much) faster then most other piano players do. But I like it.
Frapp on Friday. This is the deluxe edition of Tales of Us, and I'm listening to the second CD, with various extras/outtakes etc:
Laura Veirs - July Flame
Sunny melodies for a sunny morning plus..... 'can I call you mine?'

I've seen this pop up enough times for it to pique my interest so i've ordered it.

James, Why the rush?
Best, C.
PS. Hope you grow to love it like some of us do, please let us know.
461
I wanted to join the love-in.

Hopefully i'll be able to join the 461 love in soon
Mozart piano concertos by Murray Perahia.
Fink - Biscuits For Breakfast.
Given the recent Fink love-in, (ok, just me then), here's one of his older albums ........ more stripped down than the others posted so far, but still a good listen.
This guy is seriously good, I'm just surprised that it's taken me so long to find out.
"Machine Gun" feels right today...
You gotta love the Gristle. TG on CD:

I have to agree, it is one of his best. IMHO much of his solo output is rather dull, although alongside 461 and being of equal excellence, but for very different reasons, I would add 'From the Cradle' and 'Unplugged'.
Eric Clapton - Me and Mr. Johnson. Eric Clapton - Sessions for Robert J.
A couple more recommendations for Mr. C.
This is Eric paying tribute to his self acknowledged inspiration, Robert Johnson.
Much better than most of his mor output, the above recommended albums excluded, of course.
An appropriate album for today. A band I would have loved to have seen live (with the original line up)
Dr. Feelgood - Down By The Jetty

Giving 461 a go right now. I do like the RJ albums. Always been a big fan of RJ. Had a poster of him in my room as a teenager. A neighborhood friend turned me on to him. If I remember correctly legend says he sold his soul for his musical talents. I believe the character on O Brother a Where Art Though was based on him.

You've just tripped my memory, so ...................
Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? - Soundtrack.
One of the best recorded soundtracks out there, the singers and musicians are there in the room with the listener.
Brilliant album, and that's coming from someone who can't stand Country Music!

Great soundtrack and movie but to be fair it's not country. It's Bluegrass. Mountain music. Most from right up the road from where I am. RIP Ralph Stanley.

Apologies in order, I did lump it all together under "Country", .................... must try harder.
I do know what you mean though, since, as a long term blues fan, I am well aware of the various genres buried within the music known as "Blues"
Maybe time for me to investigate some bluegrass and mountain music.
