What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIII)

2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;
Paul Bley - Solo in Mondsee.
From Amazon:
Solo in Mondsee is the first solo piano album from Paul Bley on ECM in 35 years! It is the belated `sequel' to 1972's innovative and enduring Open, To Love and is being released in Bley's 75th year. On this creative and profound improvised recital, Bley develops a fascinating program. Kaleidoscopicallysplintered melodies, distant memories of standards, abstractions of the blues and spontaneous free playing are some of the subjects of the "Mondsee Variations."
If you like the solo piano music of Keith Jarrett you might enjoy this aswell (and Paul Bley's other solo recordings 'Oslo concert' and 'Open to love').

Sometimes I just have to play something by Simon Posford from one of his various incarnations, Younger Brother, Hallucinogen or Shpongle. This one was a follow up to a Flock of Bleeps.
thanks once again Steve...started me with Shpongle & now have to add these two as well..
That's the beauty of this thread Paul, every once in a while there is something good (and not necessarily new) to discover much helped by being able to try it via the likes of Qobuz and Tidal.
On CD:-
Eric Clapton - Another Ticket
On CD:-
Damien Jurado - Rehearsals For Departure
On CD:-
Dire Straits - Dire Straits
Perfect for Easter Sunday afternoon. I may even play the full trilogy!
Two-thirds in. Weird but enjoyable. CD ripped to NS01.
Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750): Matthäus Passion, BWV 244
Peter Pears, Hermann Prey, Elly Ameling, Marga Höffgen, Fritz Wunderlich, Tom Krause, Heinz Blankenburg, August Messthaler, Stuttgarter Hymnus-Chorknaben, Stuttgarter Kammerorchester, Karl Münchinger
Recorded in 1964 at the Ludwigsburg Church of Schloss in Stuttgart
My very early morning through sunrise Matthäus Passion.
Into the final part of the Radio Gnome Invisible trilogy. This is probably the most musical of the set, but no less wacky.
Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750): Matthäus Passion, BWV 244
Ernst Haefliger, Kieth Engen, Irmgard Seefried, Antonia Fahberg, Hertha Töpper, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Max Proebstl, Münchener Bach-Chor, Münchener Bach-Orchester,
Recording: 1959 in München, Herkules-Saal
So the event of today is to follow up Otto Klemperer with the two Karl's: Münchinger & Richter
After Klemperer comes these two recordings which are both quicker (maybe 25-30 minutes) and so I place all three recordings in the same league. In my collection and as far as I know after this there are two more groups. A few more moderates who are somewhere between Münchinger & Richter and the vast majority of the slick horse racers.
So this year I save this entire weekend for these three sets. The question is now whether I can accept the faster versions anymore? The problem is that I have dozens of other versions that are all mostly the same. I hesitate to keep buying new sets in the hope that they are more reverent as none these days seem to be capable of being?
I am definitely feeling my age more and more and don't feel as guilty anymore when I get to the urge everyday to shake my cain at the young malcontents walking over my lawn everyday and the world in general.
Happy Easter.

Something Stella from Yello.
great session from August 27, 1962.
I'm in the mood for some classical music tonight.
Handel: Messiah (1751 version) 2xHD 24/44.1 flac
Just listening to Classic Fm's hall of fame. Playing the Gadfly at the moment, delightful
So beautiful.
There are some great songs on this album, which I've not played for a while. I tend to play his solo albums more, for some reason.
Does anyone really need a reason to listen to this classic Genesis album? I don't.
