What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIII)

2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;
Anna does Italian arias...

If you would only listen to the first song, you might not realize how good this trio was. I would have really liked to see these guys once live....

Sonny Boy Williamson - Down And Out Blues.
One of the all time classic Chicago blues albums, IMHO.
And only a few pence from the Rainforest.
An album i've had in my library for a long time and usually dip in and out of for a couple of songs. Of late, it's become a real favourite and is now getting the attention it deserves. A gorgeous voice and some great writing.
Madeleine Peyroux - Bare Bones.

Just ended listening to this great album...

Ending with this one for today...

The Sopranos soundtrack.
OK, "only" a soundtrack, but there's some well chosen choons on here, from the Alabama 3's "Woke Up This Morning" (remember that one?), which opened each episode, plus offerings from Bob Dylan, Cream, Them, Springsteen, Bo Diddley and lots more.
's great.

Excellent! With Hampton Hawes (p), Charlie Haden (b) and Shelley Manne (d). This got under my skin on first hearing and still gives me goosebumps to this day.
Think I'll follow up with:

Art Pepper (as), Tommy Flanagan (p), Red Mitchell (b) and Billy Higgins (d).
Night All,
Vlad
A time machine..........

Children In Paradise, Morrigan via Tidal.
headphones on and I'll immerse myself into this wonderful album.

Berlin School Electronica by two fine exponents.
I like a lot! Just bought it. I am not supposed to spend any more money on music this month but the will is weak. These boys are a new discovery for me. May could be expensive...

Stevie Ray Vaughan - Texas Flood.
Ending the evening with a bit of Stevie ........... everyone's familiar with his version of "Voodoo Chile", but hear him channeling Jimi here on "Lenny" ........... quite superb. ![]()
(Available from the Rainforest for pennies). ![]()

A recent trip to La Feltrinelli resulted in this being added to my collection; great stuff with a band that has both Underwoods (Ian and Ruth) in it.

My 42nd Zappa title in the collection.
After sitting on the tractor for an hour and a half, a much more pleasing sound:

I too thoroughly recommend a listen to this. If you like this kind of stuff (I have no intention of trying to describe his music as it is rather unique), this will enthral.
What a wonderful artist this gentleman is. Another great shout Bert.

It could be very expensive SJT they are quite prolific and have material going back nearly 30 years! Downloading from Bandcamp might be more ermm economical? ![]()

Steaming it now. Great stuff even through my PC notebook's tiny speakers!
For US listeners interested in hearing the album pre-release go to the NPR website and it's a click away:

's great.
Volume 2 is equally good.

Lynyrd Skynyrd. Street Survivors. On original vinyl from 1977. Playing more classic vinyl during my home demo with the Ovators. The delineation of the bass lines is impressive and provides this great album another level of musicality.
