Beatles White Album, second side, (D'Agostino version) on the LP12/active SBLs system.

Edit: now moving on to side 3..... nope, side 4 - put it on upside down!!!

Ably (hmmm) assisted by a glass of Californian Rose!

Howlin' Wolf - The Absolutely Essential Collection.

Rough edged Chicago blues from the Wolf ............. it really doesn't get much better than this.

Great value 3 CD set from the Rainforest.

Posted on: 27 April 2017 by Eoink

WAV CD rip. Following on from the Mamas and the Papas, I felt the urge to hear the BS version of Dream a Little Dream, I remember a friend playing it to me and being amazed how incredibly faithful the vocal was to the Mama Cass version apart from the missing octave of depth (exaggerated for effect). I am a sucker for intelligent lyrics and good tunes, and Paul Heaton is a shining example of cynical English songwriting for me.

On a very personal note, the Beautiful South were also one of the favourite bands of my late wife, we met after the band had split, but we saw The South (part of the group) once, and Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott twice, so this has immense personal meaning beyond the musical enjoyment.

I think I might just stalk your posting tonight, spent many hours listening to Howlin' Wolf at friends' places when I was younger, and yet I have but one album in my collection. Added to the basket at that place, probably just 2 more to go.

(Edited to fix autocorrect changing Howlin' to Howling.)

Agree a great British songwriter, with a really nice vocal delivery. Sad yet pleased that there is a musical source that anchors your wife memory within you.

Last one for tonight: Tommy Flanagan - Overseas.

Thanks David. The other thing that Heaton had in the Beautiful South was the ability to find female vocalists who had great voices which complemented his, 3 fantastic vocal pairings.

Hi Steve,

Not as good as we've become used to elsewhere, from the likes of Real Gone Records, but still better than most of the other Wolf boxsets out there.

Howlin' Wolf : His Best - Chess 50th Anniversary Collection Original recording remastered.

This is marginally better for SQ, but, of course, doesn't have the same extensive repertoire of songs.

Here's one well worth a punt at a smidge more than 250 pennies from the Rainforest.

Blues Greats - Buddy Guy.

A selection of the best of Buddy's older and maybe less well known choons ............. great stuff.

That's good info' thanks Dave. I was very disappointed with a 4 CD / 8 album box of early B.B. King from Real Gone Records I bought the other week, it was as far away from that great J.L.Hooker box set (SQ) as you could imagine. Still, it was just a few quid so no great loss, the Everly Brothers box has promising DR results although I've yet to actually listen to any of them.

WAV CD rip. Fancied some German Romantic after English cynical   . I suspect I bought this after a recital at the Wigmore Hall, very well balanced performances and the music pulls you in, had to drag myself away mentally to post this.

And Dave, if you read this post, bought the Buddy Guy, had to pay 1.26 postage and it won't get me to the £20 free delivery. But isn't it amazing how we can get great music so cheaply now, the  rip it and have it available everywherewe go. I'm pretty sure this CD will have cost me at least a tenner directly from the musicians at the back of the Wig.

Eric Bibb - Migration Blues.

This plopped through the letterbox this morning ........... Eric's newest album, out today.

Yet another fab, laid back, lazy blues album from the ever reliable Mr. Bibb.

Even better, it's already on Tidal, so, go on, have a listen.

Nighty night.
