Beethoven - The Archduke Trio - Barenboim, Zuckerman, Du Pre on vinyl

No Oxfam label on this one so we must have bought this one when it came out. Such brilliant young musicians, who set a standard that is hard to surpass. Playing this with family and a glass of white Vieux Papes. Just what you need to relax at the end of the day.

Earlier I enjoyed the Schubert Piano Sonato No 21 played by Stephen Kovacevich on CD

Eric Bibb - Migration Blues.

This plopped through the letterbox this morning ........... Eric's newest album, out today.

Yet another fab, laid back, lazy blues album from the ever reliable Mr. Bibb.

Even better, it's already on Tidal, so, go on, have a listen.

Nighty night.

Dave, so many great recommendations tonight! Now don't go distracting us from the music on that HiFi Corner forum thingy. I'm all tweaked out.

Many years ago the BBC shoŵed a documentary on Jacky, Daniel and Pinky (as they called each other) playing together, I taped it to VHS, I think it it may have had that Archduke performance. When I moved house I decided to not have a TV, so got rid of the tapes. It was a great programme, they were having so much fun together, and therir joy in music shone through.

Put the Sondek to bed.

Now running the CDX-XPS

Caravan's "In the Land of Grey and Pink"

And yet more Wairau Cove Sauvignon Blanc

And watching Zebedee (Burmese kitty, male, red) running up the front of the RH SBL.....a nice sloped frontage........oh sh1t!

Back to great cynical English songwriters. A true original, one of the great guitarists, a brilliant songwriter, this is a live album from the mid-80s, I first saw him in 1982 (already 15 years into his career). He was playing songs from his excellent 1970s albums and his later albums, he had the fantastic Chris Collister as female vocals, and as always a tight band. There are many better Thompson albums, but I was there twice on this tour, and even a good Thompson album is a very fine album which would stand out in most artist's oeuvres.

Nice wine, nice music, how do you keep a kitten off an SBL?

Yeah, but I still think foam is superior. Just not sure if the market is ready for the additional cost. Damn that James!

Haim,

Are you going to see Hamelin/Andsness duo recital this Sunday at the Orchestra Hall?

They'll be playing some Stravinsky tunes.

Kuma,

I am leaving it to you. Two pianos are a bit too much for me. The guy I am really interested in hearing is Yefgeny Sudbin.

Back to Brahms.

Harnoncourt/Berliner: Brahms Symphony No.3 & 4

Harnoncourt's Brahms is fluid and aristocratic. (almost Mozartian ) Not exactly what I expect out of Brahms program, but skillfully done.
