Bob Dylan. Pat Garrett & Bill The Kid. On vinyl from 1973. My first listen and I found it very enjoyable. Largely acoustic, there's a very up-close, live recording quality. The instruments and vocals both have an immediate, raw, and uncolored sound, the exceptions being "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" and "Final Theme" which have obvious echo added.

Dog Man Star [Remastered) [Clean]

Suede - Dog Man Star

A big record, maybe a bit too big in places - they absolutely throw everything at it at times including what sounds like the kitchen sink. Still can't believe this is well over 20 years old; saw them live around that time in Birmingham but then again I guess that does feel like a lifetime ago, now sitting here in Munich with the Deutsche Filmpreis 2017 on the tv in the background with the sound down....

Warren Zevon. Sentimental Hygiene. On DMM vinyl from 1987. An album that's really grown on me the past couple of years. Interesting to read recently that at age 13 Zevon met on several occasions with Igor Stravinsky and Robert Craft who encouraged him to study music.

Jackson Browne. Standing In The Breach. On vinyl from 2014. I already have this on CD. Yesterday I saw a sealed LP marked down to $10 so I figured what the hell? Well, the hell is that it's god-awfully compressed, possibly worse than the CD, and they took a 10-track album and for some reason decided to press it on two heavyweight LPs. Five standard-length tracks on a disc?

System is really "on song" this evening listening to this recording.

I guess you could even say it's "on movement" or "sounding suite"

Vladimir Jurowski/LPO: Brahms Symphony No.3

Nicer soudning digital live recording. Wide dynamics, excellent low level contents, natural tonal balance and timbre.

Large and imposing intro but never sounding heavy or stodgy. The music has a nice breathing quality and tension management similar to Toscanini/NBC. Rich tonal colours and great details and textures coming through in this live recording. ( hats off to the recording engineer ) Impressive large vista Deliberate variations of tempo builds excitement and flow to the music where makes me follow the story telling closer and keeping me in suspense. This is just for the starter.  Pacy yet expressive Andante. This is a beautiful story telling. 3rd mvt. is extra lush and luxurious. Brahms done up in a full romantic treatment. Exciting final movement. Retaining all the weight and tonal richness yet the orchestra is flying in precision. Well organised so even the going gets tough, I can follow the tune easily.

Never heard of this young conductor but this is an excellent Brahms No.3 coupled with a great digital recording, perhaps I should pony up for the vinyl box set. :?

This isn't the correct album art (apologies), playing a double album of EW&F's greatest (live stuff). If you can sit still though this then you must be dead already!

I used to play this a lot at the party. Everyone's favourite.

Loved Sonny Emory's stupendous drum solo!

Rush. Hold Your Fire. With a promo label on original DMM vinyl from 1987. A very good Rush album that passed me by back in the day. It gets regular listens since my personal vinyl revival, now in its fifth year.

just finished watching Jools Holland recording from last night & this lady stole the show for me.....a real surprise, late addition....not bad considering that the show also included Robert Cray & Beth Ditto!

Emmylou Harris. Elite Hotel. On vinyl from 1975. I'm a newcomer to anything from Emmylou. The handful of albums I've picked up from her have been very good. She always seems to surround herself with accomplished musicians. This one, plucked blindly from the used bin, is great for SQ and musicianship, but for my predominantly rock/pop tastes a bit much on the twangy, country music side of things. She has such a sweet voice, maybe it will grow on me?

I agree good performance on JH yesterday. What does the album sound like?... I have been caught out before loving the live performances on JH, but finding the recorded album equivalent disappointing.. I rather enjoyed the performer from the Faroe Islands as well.. a more roots version of Bjork ?

I'm off to New York in August to celebrate my 50th birthday and noticed while I'm there they are playing at Madison Square Garden, along with Chic ft Nile Rodgers - seriously thinking to get tickets for that one!!

That would be a great way to treat yourself on a landmark  birthday, EW&F with Chic should be great fun!

I was quite taken with her too, and have tracked down quite a lot of her stuff on Tidal ........... I'd agree that the "live" performances have the edge, but will investigate further.

I sometimes feel that Jools' show is not unlike this topic, when it comes to someone totally unknown, (to me, at least), appearing on the radar.

Talking of which, what about the lassie from the Faroes? A quite stunning performance, I felt.

Good stuff - look forward to giving this a whirl via the Jools show saved on the PVR.
