One of several RSD purchases. Love the energy and enthusiasm of early Dead shows. Can it really be 50+ years since then?

Jerzy Antczak. Ego, Georgius on CD.

Now this is a Great Album. Superb Prog.

Many thanks for highlighting this artist.  The music is superb and I will now fully research this brilliant musician...!

You're welcome, check out Albion on Tidal, Boken Hope, Indefinite State of Matter and Unsongs are really good too. The follow up to this album is String Theory by Georgius and imo is the better of the two, also on Tidal. Have fun.

Elvis Costello - North

This kind of stuff is putting me outside of my comfort zone tbh. But reading his autobiography helped me start to get it.

EJ,

Who's the lead?

Ane Brun has the most wonderful voice, accompanied here by her acoustic guitar (which she called 'Morgan').

Gato Barbieri: Qué Pasa

The music from the past. Can't believe it's been 20 years since this CD was released. I remember using the track Granada for auditioning a several CD players.

Giving Moon Duo's new album released and downloaded this morning its first play.

"Occult Architecture reflects the harmonious duality of these light and dark energies through the Chinese theory of Yin and Yang. Following the Yin (feminine, darkness, night, earth) represented on Occult Architecture Vol. 1, Vol. 2 presents the Yang.

Yang means “the bright side of the hill” and is associated with the male, sun, light and the spirit of heaven, and as such Vol. 2 explores the light and airy elements of Moon Duo’s complex psyche.

“In production we referred to Vol. 1 as the fuzz dungeon, and Vol. 2 as the crystal palace,” guitarist Ripley Johnson explains. “The darkness of Vol. 1 gave birth to the light of Vol. 2. We had to have both elements in order to complete the cycle."

Bernstein/NYP: Brahms Symphony No.2 & 3

No.2 is the first recording made at a Lincoln Center ( now Geffen Hall ). This is an infamous Sony SBM digital reissue which sounds opaque and much poorer sounding than my original 1962 Columbia pressing. A provincial in styling like 60’s film score but still plenty of humanity and friendliness.

These are not the best of Lenny's output and certainly not memorable.

Jukka-Pekka Saraste/ WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln : Brahms Symphony No.1

Oh wow! This 2013 recording by Saraste/WDR turned out to be a dark horse.

Tension filled opening with clear diction and crisp notes delivery. Somewhat unusual for Brahms but gives the score a fresh perspective and clean edges. Hushed piccicato strings and subtle textures in low level adds extra suspense and interest. Cleverly avoid the music to become too thick and confused. This is a Brahms in a crystal clear vista. Saraste gives a rock solid granite like hold to the band. Measured classy Andante is slightly cool but it has a Mozartian like transparency and bitter sweet undertone. Galoping 3rd mvt. but never hurried. followed by a suspensfull final mvt. intro. He never lets a note hang on a second longer to keep the extra tension. Vivid reading  coupled with a great dynamic contrast and expressive direction makes this one of more visual and compelling modern Brahms recording. Excellent sound also is an added bonus.

Sound wise, it's slightly laid back but no upper mid range glare or thin distorted strings.  Specious and vast yet keeping a certain level of intimacy and closeness. Beautiful sound of brass instruments. i think this is one of a better recorded Brahms.

I have added this to my favourite Brahms Symphony No.1 recording amongst my 3Ks ( Kubelik, Klemperer, Kempe)

Lightnin' Hopkins - Eight Classic Albums.

Another winner from Real Gone Music.

Great remastering, and at just over a fiver for eight albums, from the Rainforest, well, what can I say?
