What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIII)

2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;
Squeezing Out Sparks is no landmark. If you're looking for an LP with the coherence and weight of Bruce Springsteen's Darkness on the Edge of Town, you may be disappointed. The album, rather, is one chapter in the story Graham Parker and the Rumour are telling — a tale sometimes subverted by weaknesses of nerve, imagination or craft, a tale of true fear and drama. It's often been said that the work of those artists we most care about becomes part of our own autobiographies. Such work allows us to understand our own successes and failures. This has been true of the music of Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Jimi Hendrix, Rod Stewart, Sly Stone, Janis Joplin — all people who have, at considerable risk, exposed themselves and allowed others to understand how little they were holding back, and thus allowed others to respond in kind. Whatever the flaws of Squeezing Out Sparks, this remains true of Graham Parker.
- Rolling Stone
Ayreon - The Source. Quite heavy and guitar oriented, with some brilliant moments...
this is one of 2 vinyl classical records i bought (i think in HMV Oxford St) when i was at Uni -- i.e. a looooong time ago. i was a frequent browser in that shop -- spent more than i should have there, given limited grant funds etc..
the other vinyl was Beethoven Violin Concerto -- i will find it and post later. As i recall, it took some time to get used to it -- and one my friends was surprised i was even venturing into this 'Classical' stuff. "Stick to Jethro Tull, Ken"...
But these 2 records i now consider quite special in my collection -- and i have since bought the CD version of Beethoven Violin Concerto...
enjoy...

This SHM-CD has just arrived from Japan. All I can say is... wow. Unbelievable sound quality. Not sure if it's better than my UK first press vinyl LP, but it's certainly better than any digital version I've ever heard. And of course the music, signing, arrangements, production, playing (from Nashville's finest) are all peerless.
A pity that Universal have only released this album (Touch 'Em With Love) and Fancy in this format.
Aretha Franklin - I Never Loved A Man The Way I Love You.
Impossible to choose a "best" Aretha album, they're all brilliant, so,........... eeny, meeny, miny, mo' ........... this one!
great budget set on Ondine

Listening now and it's damn good!
Yet another run for this - absolutely agree. Only complaint is that at around 32 mins it's too short. Just have to wait for vol 2.
Glad you guys are liking it.
Agree very much with these gentlemen. Great shout Ewe.
Of course I have heard CS many times before without knowing it as Ewe pointed out, he is lead singer and guitarist on a Steeldrivers album I listen to a lot.
Beth Hart & Joe Bonamassa - Don't Explain.
A fine album of covers from two artists at the very top of their respective games ............. highly recommended.
Best of all, it's on Tidal, (under Joe Bonamassa), ............ have a listen.

A breakthrough performance in the history of blues when a jazz audience embraced & applauded this earthy Chicago sound to the fullest & for many in the crowd their first exposure to the music live. MUDDY WATERS At Newport (1973 UK stereo issue of the classic 1961 9-track LP.
Thanks for posting this one Quad 33. I am more of a Jazz man, but I am linking thin one. Listening to this via Tidal.

Goldfrapp - Supernature.
As a recently fully paid up member of the Frappness Fraternity, ............... why not?
Apparently, one of her idols was Marc Bolan of T-Rex ................ I can certainly hear that.
