What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIII)

2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;
This is the only CD I have of Ike Quebec. If you like the Blue Note sound of the 50s and 60s than Ike Quebec's music is certainly worthwhile to have in your collection. I hear more more swing / rock 'n roll elements in his music compared to the hard bop / bebop style of others (such as Lee Morgan, Sonny Rollins, Freddy Hubbard and so on). It's more like Ben Webster.

Thanks for this shoud Bert. I have yet to explore the music of Jackie McLean. I know (knew) of him but don't know his music very well. I'm listening to this one on Tidal and it's certainly a nice album.
Regards, Jeroen.

Ornette Coleman wrote some great melodies.
True. According to Stephen Cook's notes at AllMusic Review, John Lewis (of MJQ) was one of the first to recognize the then controversial Ornette as a jazz genius, sponsored him at the School of Jazz near Lennox, MA and may have been the first to cover 'Lonely Woman'
Diana Krall - Turn Up The Quiet
So cool.......(even without legs)

Lucky you if you pursue his music. He led or played as a sideman on some monster releases at Blue Note, Prestige and Atlantic (with Mingus), and many others.
Chris Stapleton - From A Room: Volume 1
My word, this is good.
Switching to some modern jazz music...
UK vinyl. I bought this particular copy in January 1978, with some Record Tokens (remember them?) I got for Xmas...

Great trio with Higgins and McBride.

They played The Mexican on my local radio station as I was driving to work the other morning. Head bobbing all the way to that bass line.
On vinyl. Letting system settle down after a bit of a reorganisation
