"Concord recorded a number of solo piano concerts in the warm surroundings of the tiny Maybeck Recital Hall and one would be hard-pressed to find any that surpass this outstanding performance by Sir Roland Hanna. Over half of his program is devoted to selections by George Gershwin, beginning with a dazzling "Love Walked In," which delves into a jaunty style reminiscent of the late Erroll Garner…  Like many of the releases in this series, Hanna's Maybeck concert was dropped from the catalog after the company changed hands, so expect it to become a high-priced collectable before long." (AllMusic)

I couldn't find a soundtrack from the Maybeck Recital so this will do:

This by Gene Harris also from the Maybeck Recital Hall series. It is rather wonderful IMHO.

 It is on Tidal.

I bought most of the Maybeck series when they came out on cd and they are all good.

2001 - CD...

Always good  to hear JJ interpreting his own songs like Cocaine and After Midnight. Money Talks is a particular favourite.

If you like modern jazz piano trio's, than I can highly recommend this album / artist. I don't know much about Orrin Evans (yet). I just listened to this album on Tidal and I think it's is very good. Most tracks are up tempo ones.

All his albums are high quality - so do. also explore the others...

Mike Oldfield, Tubular Bells, because I've just finished watching Exorcist the beginning , which is a pretty decent film, and it reminded me just how much I used to love this album as a teenager.  The opening music is still somthing very special in my view.  Flac via Audirvana/Hugo

Grateful Dead/Cornell University/May 8th - just released last week (also on vinyl and digital download) - 40 years ago today - not my favorite show from the May '77 tour, but certainly a great one!

Listening to this CD rip now - a very fine show. I was at the May 12-13, 1977 shows at the Auditorium Theater in Chicago, so those had to be my favorites!

I remember buying this on LP when it was first released. Eric Dolphy on bass clarinet is always worth hearing.

So, some Andrew Hill next - Compulsion!!!!! is a favourite. Thanks for the nudge.

You might be interested because it's so easy to overlook the recent (ha) past and there are some pretty full on sound stages in there.

Such depth, from "It began in Africa" to "The State we're in" - great album - on vinyl of course

William Bell - This Is Where I Live.              (William wrote the well known "Born Under A Bad Sign").

Do you ever buy a new album, only to find that you simply can't stop playing it?

So, no apologies for posting this one again ................. simply stunning!
