William Bell - This Is Where I Live.              (William wrote the well known "Born Under A Bad Sign").

Do you ever buy a new album, only to find that you simply can't stop playing it?

So, no apologies for posting this one again ................. simply stunning!

Dave, this is a veritable belter. I'll just have to go to the big river I guess.

It's a cracker, Nigel, and we need to spread the word ............ imagine missing out on something as good as this!

Just an update, Nigel, the album dropped through the letterbox this morning, ripped, and playing now ......... 's brilliant!

I bought this four-CD box set a few weeks ago and I've just got round to listening to it - diving into Disc One.

Some great music on here, and in decent SQ too. These Real Gone Music sets are insanely good value for money. This Stax one cost under £7!

I agree Kev, I got this, The Atlantic Story and B.B. King boxes a few weeks ago for the same price, yet to listen to anything from this one but looking forward to having a go...!

Keeping the morning on the light side:

Sound track is of Tharaud Chabrier, a recording I couldn't find and ended up with Hewitt instead:

Fabulous sonic Q recordings from mid 60s - I'd forgotten how raw & bluesy this album is, often sounding similar to Savoy Brown, some tracks very much like early Beatles, and the odd calmer track like Nick Drake.

Keb' Mo' - Just Like You.

Prompted by an earlier shout from GraemeH, there's never not a good time to listen to mo' Mo'.

An artist I can highly recommend.

I have all her albums and CRS in Holland recently decided to issue the above comp which is a wonderful overview of her music.

Well worth buying

(2004)

Because I'm just in the mood for this.

"Peyroux, under the producing guide of Larry Klein (Joni Mitchell, a.o) steers us through a world of beautiful songs that bring instant warmth. Listen, and we hope that you agree that Peyroux has earned the status as this years great discovery and by the end of 2005, you would have gladly introduced many friends to this immaculate, charming & critically acclaimed album."

"When Madeleine Peyroux's debut, Dreamland, was released in 1996, its success threw her for a loop. She's taken eight years to create this follow-up, and, at age 30, she brings a confidence and resilience to this dozen-song set. She's able to move seamlessly between songs by writers as diverse as Elliott Smith and W.C. Handy, whose title track was popularized by Bessie Smith. Though American-born, Peyroux absorbed the language and culture of France growing up in Paris with her French-teacher mother. On her debut, she covered Edith Piaf, and this time out she wraps herself around "J'ai Deux Amours," which Josephine Baker sang to the Allied troops during World War II. --David Greenberger"
