2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.

I bought this on Friday for just £5 whilst shopping at our local supermarket. I hadn't bought it on its release owing to the disappointment expressed on here and other forums. However, I am pleasantly surprised by it. I'm not a great fan of pedal steel guitar, and it is employed quite extensively on this album, but DG uses it well. It may not be their finest outing, but it's certainly not their worst either. I think I'll be playing this frequently in coming weeks.

Glancing at Wikipedia I see that a biopic of the band to be called Street Survivors has just started shooting in L.A.

"Jared Cohn directs the film, which he wrote from a story by longtime Skynyrd drummer Artimus Pyle. Originally announced as Free Bird, it traces the band’s tragic history centering on Pyle (Shultis) and his experiences of the events surrounding the chartered-plane crash on October 20, 1977 that killed original band members Ronnie Van Zant (Clift), Steve Gaines (Forrest), and backing vocalist Cassie Gaines, Steve’s sister. An assistant road manager and the two pilots also died in the crash after the tour plane ran out of fuel over Mississippi.

A total of 20 passengers survived including Pyle and guitarist Gary Rossington (Them Guns frontman Navarone Garibaldi), the latter a founder of the band who broke both arms, legs, wrists, ankles and his pelvis but returned to music. At present, Rossington is the last original member of the band. Sean McNabb (Sons of Anarchy) also co-stars in the pic."

Pyle also is a producer along with Cleopatra Records founder Brian Perera.

This is Where I Live

After seeing  this album recommendation from Dave Marshall & nigelb i log into Tidal to have a listen.

All i can say is this is truly a stunning album from a great singer, this is R&B music at's its absolute best, downloading album from Qobuz.

I have never heard of this artist before so any recommendations for which of his albums are "must buys" to help me get my collection started from this artist.

18 of 555:

Scarlatti's 555 keyboard sonatas are single movements, mostly in binary form, and some in early sonata form, and mostly written for the harpsichord or the earliest pianofortes. (There are four for organ, and a few for small instrumental group).

Analogue Products mono reissue. Staggering recording of superb performances in equally remarkable sound quality:

Prokofiev - Piano sonatas.

For some reason I decided a long time ago that Prokofiev isn't my kind of music. Hence, I completly ignored his music. The last six month I started listening to his music again and discovered that I like his music.

Paul Weller's latest.  Rather listenable and more melodic and less frenetic to my ears than some his previous "recent" stuff. Tidal.

Imelda May: "Life, Love, Flesh Blood" (on Tidal)

I must admit to not having known much (or even anything) about Imelda May up until seeing a clip of her and her band performing at the Cambridge Folk Festival.

I decided to check her out on Tidal, and this album and Imelda May herself are simply stunning. Although I have access to it on Tidal, I will almost certainly be buying the hi-res version of the album from Qobus.

I  like her song "Kentish Town Waltz", it is simple but just perfectly takes me in to the song.

Chris Stapleton - From a Room Vol 1.  Getting lots of plays at the moment.  Highly recommended.  Even if your not a "country" fan, give "I Was Wrong" a blast on Tidal - a real hairs-on-the back-of-the-neck-stand-up track which may just tempt you into the rest of the album.
