Tinariwen - Aman Iman (Water is Life).

Phew, that burst of Lizzy certainly got the circulation going .............. time for a pre bedtime calm down.

Quality desert blues from these guys, and it's produced by Justin Adams, of Sensational Space Shifters fame, and no mean

of trance desert blues himself .......... so it's bound to be good.

I just sent an e-mail to a couple we met at Anat Cohen's concert last week with a list (12) of recommended ECM recordings. This was one of them:

Neil Young & Crazy Horse. Ragged Glory. On CD from 1990. Tough to keep up with such a prolific artist's output and this fantastic album escaped me for some 25 years. Happy to have discovered it a few years ago based on posts here. It's quintessential NY & CH.

Recently downloaded from Qobuz. Book 2 entitled Libro Segundo de cifras sobre la guitarra española was printed in Saragossa in 1675. A third book, Libro tercero de mùsica de cifras sobre la guitarra española, was added to the first and second books, and all three were published together under the title of the first book in 1697, eventually being published in eight editions. The 90 works in this masterpiece are his only known contribution to the repertory of the guitar

"With the possible exception of Hopkinson Smith's Guerau album, this is the high point of baroque guitar recordings. The colour, phrasing, energy - the poetry - this disc is the closest anyone working in the 'early music' realm has come to achieving the glories of Julian Bream's guitar-playing. As if this weren't enough, Smith's approach to the text - the way he treats the musical sources - is outstanding in both its tase and its inspired freedom. Smith treats the tablatures of Sanz as a diving board into the general ether of Spanish music, popular and artistic, of the 17thc century. Many recordings - I won't name them - apply a misguided textual reverence to the sources. Not this one! Hopkinson Smith tastefully embellishes, repeats, adds, re-fingers, even uses the odd harmonic. Whether each choice is 'right' or not, what he achieves is the recreation of living music, the sense that the music is of the here and now. And far beyond any grand sentiments, he simply makes great music out of it." - An Amazonian

One of Joe's best IMV. Rocks along, with plenty of attack and Joe's usual verve. The original vinyl (c.1984) is very good.

This really is a very good Jeff Beck album, punchy, fuzzy shredding mixed in with techno beats and blues it rocks along very, very well.
