What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIII)

2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;

Robert Schumann (1810-1856): Kinderszenen, Op. 15
Franz Liszt (1811-1886): Ballade No. 2 in b minor, S.171
Leos Janacek (1854-1928): Sonata 1.X.1905 'From The Streets'
Johannes Brahms (1833-1897): Drei Intermezzi, Op. 117
When I look at the cover to this album, I can instantly relate and sense a soul connection. It is not hard to imagine me inserting my own image there in his place in my mind's eye. The reason being that Haochen Zhang and myself are both similarly reflective and introspective by nature. The choice of music here is the first clue. The way it is played confirms this whole presupposition.
I do listen to a lot of music and do try to give respect and latitude in our differences just because I know that we all have a view on things and although we don't have to agree on everything I respect just about anyone who presents their views in a way that doesn't poke back in an arrogant way at any differences in a disrespectful way. In the end though, I think we ultimately gravitate to the corner of the room with the people that we have the most in common with.
Classical music for me is the tonic that naturally suits my personality as a great majority of it is simply the heartfelt, personal diaries of the great composers and hence, every emotion can be found including my favourite elements of reflection and introspection. This album is a big winner for me as it very nicely is totally genuine - composer, artist, and listener.
A good reminder for me also to stay true to myself. I don't belong in any other room than my music room - my piano and me in solitude.
I agree this new artist is for me very welcome as he brings a different way of presenting the music....
Getting a lot play at the moment in the household
Starting with Bach again this morning. BWV 186/107/187

A random pick. Haven't heard this CD for yonks. Only solo LP (1998) from talented Talk Talk former frontman. It's very good. He should make another.
Art Pepper - Winter Moon. This is Art Pepper with strings playing ballads.
Most of the time I don't like it when Jazz musicians use strings, but this one from Art Pepper is quite nice.
Sgt. Pepper Foever. Streamed via Bluetooth from the BBC iplayer app. Part one of the BBC Radio 2 documentary about the making of Sgt. Peppers. A truly fascinating insight to the background events and the recording process. Absolutley superb and highly reccomended.

Welcome. I found it really interesting, especially the alternative versions of some of the tracks. From the creation of Penny Lane and then on to Sg. Pepper. Fascinating. Listened to it once while working and will give it another run this afternoon, as there were a few cases of "did I just hear that?". Well worth a listen.
Joe Cocker - Sheffield Steel.
A standout album from Joe, following several less than great offerings .............. Sly and Robbie in attendance.
For a few pence from The Rainforest.

I've only recently bought this album and its a cracker !
One notch down from the above but still very good if not in the collection already - his best 2 albums for me.

Yes, I'd agree, these are his two best albums.
Prompted by Yetizone's post above, I am now listening to the Sgt Pepper Forever doc via BBC iPlayer Radio:
Karen Souza - Essentials
A tip from the Hi-Fi Corner. Rather listenable.
A bit of Shelby on vinyl having just added a Tranquillity to my LP12 and battled with the springs, grommets and nuts.
I struggled with the quality of this when I've played it before. But with an upgraded and fettled LP12 it sounds great.
Jimmy Cliff - The Harder They Come.
Some easy going reggae lite on a sunny North Yorks. afternoon.

One of my favourite Art Pepper albums.
Sun is out, some live music with soul. On vinyl.
Renee Olstead - Renee Olstead
More easy listening from the Hi-Fi Room forum (Malaka) from an artist new to me.
Nice.
