What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIII)

2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;
Paul Bley - Not two, not one.
This music is not really suitable as background music. To appreciate it you really need to listen to it, imo.
And when you take the time, you hear some beatiful music
1975 - Vinyl - US pressing...
Kandace Springs - Soul Eyes
This is simply wonderful. Instant de-stresser. KS is such a talent.
Oh, and thanks to Tony who first pointed this abum out. Nice one.

So sorry to hear that, best wishes are with you.
Kevin-W posted:A masterpiece, and the album she was most fond of (it flopped and its reception probably prompted her exit from the recording business). As the title suggests, it is a tapestry of American popular culture - blues, folk, country, vaudeville, musical theatre, soul... Bobbie wrote every note, produced it, arranged most of it and even painted the cover picture. UK first vinyl from 1971:
She is a rather an extraordinary talent K..
Vinyl. Recorded on a 4 track cassette at a set of folk clubs, the music stops you noticing the variable, but never very good, recordings. Chris Collister has a startling alto voice, able to drag emotion from any song, Clive Gregson is a fine guitarist and excellent singer, their voices blend perfectly, I lost the cassette I bought from Clive at Cropredy, but have this on vinyl and CD (ripped now), it's been a much loved companion for about 30 years. A combination of very good Gregson compositions and covers, superb guitar work from Gregson and two very very fine singers, it's a travesty that they never had the breakthrough their music deserved.
Sarah Jaffe - "Suburban Nature" (2010)

I'm sad to hear your news Ewen, my thoughts are with you and yours at this most difficult time.

Hope things go as well as they can do in such circumstances, ewemon.

Absolutely agree. I've lost count of the number of times I've played this album since buying it on the basis of other on here recommending it.

OK Guys, you talked me into it. Ordered (without listening - yes, ok, I'm mad) from the rainforest.
I'm another who ensured I had this on the day of release. The 'Amused to death' similarity is very must there + PF's 'Animals'. I think this is going to be one of those albums that rewards several plays during which the complexity and Waters' obsession becomes more apparent and appreciated.
I've got the CD version. I can see (or more accurately hear) what Kevin-W points out. The reproduction quality doesn't have that holographic quality of Amused to Death, which I would say is exceptional, but it's not at all bad.
2 x CD [deluxe expanded edition] Sanctuary Records 2004 issue : )

really, really sorry to hear your news ....a great album to choose in the circumstances but my thoughts are certainly with you in this tough time.
Vinyl. After Clive B's earlier post, I went to play Highway to Hell, this came out beside it, and how could I resist? High voltage rock and roll at its best. Let there be light, sound, drums, gittar, let there be ROCK!
Wishbone Ash - Argus.
Via headline to Senn 650s.
By 'eck, this NAC82 is good!

If you gotta go, then there is no finer accompaniment for the journey.
Carlos Santa - Moonflower black stuff
Earlier it was the Latino Mix, dont dismiss it as a another £1.50 Woollies sp offer compilation, its actually quite good. If you like a bit of Latino, get your 'wife beater' vest on, turn up the heat (its been over 30 here) pour a pina Colada & enjoy.
Finally its Ben Webster with 'Jazz around Midnight' - we're an hour ahead here, N
Vinyl. Mary Coughlan's an amazing jazz/blues singer, an album of low-paced songs, she wrings your heart, Ain't No Cure For Love is a brilliant version.

Hello, really sorry to hear that.
I lost my bro end of last year & I feel for you. My brother knew 10 times more about music than I ever will, played the piano, flute & played widors toccata at our wedding.
Wish I could share a glass with you but nowt better than a bit of Purpes tho.

Isnt that what this thread is about? Ive bought several on recommends & without it would have not found Diana Krall to mention one of several.
Earlier this evening...
Nice!
