Enjoying Gerry Mulligan with Johnny Hodges.

Must check this one out! I'm a big fan of both players and have missed this, foolishly.

Jazz Giants '58 - CD rip. Another good one with Getz, Mulligan, Edison, Bellson & the Peterson Trio

So now switching back to the Tingvall Trio with the great Martin Tungvall on piano......., needed a bit more modern jazz ....., while not yet avant-garde .....

Eric Wood  -  "Letters From The Earth"  (1997)

If of interest, and certainly for the reason of the ever elusive "why", I told this story here originally in 2008:

"Eric wrote a song dedicated to Tim and Jeff (Buckley) on his "Letters From The Earth" disc. I saw Eric perform it at an in-store in Pdx, feet curled over the stage edge, eyes closed, head tilted toward the ceiling. I was convinced Eric had left this reality and was with Tim and Jeff during those moments - stunning to witness and hear."

Lyrics:

Out of the Blues and
Into a virgin boy she came
Spreading like opium
Over a heart so pure
Over a heart so pure

Out of the Blues and
With no uncertain voice she sang
Dark like a dreamer
Armed with the night's allure
Armed with the night's allure

Out of the blues and
Into his soul
...soon as she moves he
Lose control

Is she a sorceress
With a most powerful potion or
Is she a healer
Holding the only cure
Holding the only cure?

Though her choice of partner leaves a little to be desired, this is an excellent album. And yes, the cover art needs sorting out.

After a whole day of jazz, I am closing the day with this nice rendition of Haydn string quartets. Bought all quartets on Qobuz in 24/44.1 and then as usual organized it in it's original covers and album order. While I also have the set of the Los Angeles Quartet, I like this set better do it's round sound and in my feeling more emotional touch - while I haven't done an A-B comparison...

This is a very good EP from EBTG, another cover that needs fixing.

1984 - Vinyl - U.K. Box set...

I haven't listened to this in a long time. This set  demands  the listener's  full, uninterrupted attention and the night is young.  Well, here we go.

Mary-Chapin Carpenter. Come On Come On. On CD from 1992. One of my wife's CDs that I've taken kindly to over the years.
