What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIII)

2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;
Vinyl, the Irish singer songwriter multi-instrumentalist on fine form, very good songs, the production clearly shows the mid-80s date, The Island is a beautiful song of anger about what was happening in his home province, one of the finest songs in my entire collection, Dylanesque in its power.
Bought the Rhino Handmade version of this a number of years back but it is currently on Amazon UK for £16.99. Not sure if it is the 4 cd box set but if it is then that is a really cheap price.

I'm not sure I can cope with paying over £4 a disc any more, but too good to pass up, ordered, thanks Ewemon.
Dave McKenna - A celebration of Hoagy Carmichael.
Recording of a live performance by Dave McKenna (solo piano) playing music of Hoagy Carmichael in Dave McKenna's typical stride / swing style.
Enjoying a bit of Nora J this evening (probably the only enjoyment I'll get, once the election results start coming in )
Vinyl, if not my favourite Genesis album, certainly in my top 2 or 3, full of proggie goodness.

I paid in the region of 50 squid I think for my set.
Waiting to go on after the Genesis finishes, the original slime green vinyl pressing of Overkill. The classic Mötörhead trio blasting out the template for speed metal, unsophisticated, but great. There are times when a detached house is useful.

Sinead O'Connor - I do not want what I haven't got.
..... early release, her second album which lead to four a Grammy nominations, winning one and refusing to accept it.
Always loved her voice and her work throughout the years.
You might like "How About I Be Me (And You Be You)-". I thought it was her best since the one above!
Via Tidal....

That sort of discovery really grates. Unfortunately (or fortunately, I suppose) it happens quite frequently these days as so many CDs can now be purchased for less than £5, when I find I paid around £15 in the late '80s and '90s. In real terms that is a massive difference.
Clive B posted:One of my all time favourite records, if not the favourite. It certainly played a big part in my musical development. Not quite as magical, mysterious and perplexing as it seemed when I first heard it, but still three marvellous pieces of music.
I think I've discovered why it didn't appear so magical as it did originally. That's because I was streaming the Stephen Wilson remaster. Dreadful mistake! I'm now streaming the Rhino version, which is SO much better - more musical and way more enjoyable. And it still makes my spine tingle! I love this record.
Otis Taylor - Hey Joe Opus Red Meat.
Some late evening relaxing with Otis, the master of modern trance blues .......... awfully good.
Just before bedtime, Tanchão ......... and further on.
Silent, but still enjoyable for those liking early music
From allmusic.com:
Pete Jolly and his longtime sidemen (Chuck Berghofer has been his regular bassist since the late '50s while drummer Nick Martinis joined up in 1964) perform 11 standards plus his old hit "Little Bird" on this fine outing. The virtuosic pianist dominates the ensembles but the contributions of Berghofer and Martinis (who have to think fast to keep up with him) should not be overlooked. Jolly's total command of the piano and infectious enthusiasm, which can result in some explosive outbursts, do not overshadow his good taste and the self-restraint that he shows on the ballads.
Have to mention this one as well. Norwegian folksongs played beautifully by this duo. I`m sure it will appeal worldwide.
Inspired by Ewemon's earlier post, the Mule play Floyd as a final album before bedtime.

I can recommend BWs 'Jazz 'round midnight' if you dont have it, rather laid back & not for listening to in the car!
I own 9 BW albums but not that one. Will check it out. Thanks.
Edit: Make that 13 including the collaborations with Coleman Hawkins & Gerry Mulligan

+1. Call me a spoiler re all the Sgt Pepper celebration stuff, but for me this album will always beat all that druggy self indulgence into a cocked hat...
Zsofia Boros: Local Objects
Music that lets you discover mysterious places through the most beautiful sounds. That is exactly what ZSÓFIA BOROS has created on her second album „Local Objects“ (ECM New Series).

Thanks for posting this one Haim! I listened to it on amazon and it's very beautiful music indeed. It's now on my shopping list. Regards, Jeroen.
