An old album, but I personally only came to it recently for some reason. Nothing groundbreaking in the music, but just good, pleasing songs played by a group who clearly enjoy each others company both musically and personally. Nice.

I spotted Iconoclast playing this a couple of days ago, thought I'd like it, so am Tidalling it, soloists on great form, orchestra supporting them well  the principals are obviously enjoying themselves. Excellent album.

Ordered from the river, along with the MullovaLabequerecital played earlier, the Argerich Lugano 2014 that I learnt about from Bert (and the 2015 as well because I thought it looked good) and a 5 CD bargain box set of the Corrs,

I just read the interview with Steve Earle on the guardian here and it got me thinking about this album, which kicks arse.

Last album before bedtime, change of style. Great classic blues from Buddy Guy.

In a mood for a late night jazz on tape in Bill Evan's style.

Side A - Alessandro Galati Trio: On a sunny day

side B - Claudio Filippini Trio: Breathing in unison

Hello,

What does "Ordered from the river" mean?

Hello,

What does "Ordered from the river" mean?

Rather than potentially breach forum rules by referring to commercial sites, a well known online retailer is often referred to as "the river" or "the rainforest", as not very subtle references to its name.

Ah yes, thank you.  Sometimes the Colorado altitude works against me...  ;-)

I apologize for my ignorance but this is my first contact with Fado music motivated by a member of the Forum. I really liked the album, maybe it's a good starting point for this style.

A+ Tidal

It's always interesting to listen to a same record with a different cartridge as how it renders. In place of Linn Krystal, Lyra Etna SL playing the same antique 1948 Szell/Budapest SQ. The first thing hit me was a quicker perceived speed. I changed nothing. Kept the same phono ( Linn Linto ) The tonal colours stayed the same but increased resolution and finer intonations in Szell's piano playing as well as fiddles are less dry. So the story telling is not so abrupt as the Etna SL was filling the blanks where Krystal skipped.

Deeper musical insight is what you get I suppose.

The best cover of a Beatle song ever!

Mozart Piano quartet No.1 & 2: Beaux arts Trio

Sounds pretty and pristine.  Too polished and 'salon' for my taste. I admire their technical excellence and marveled at how difficult and rather complicated these tunes are.  There are a lot more going on here than I thought.  I just think personally that Mozart's pieces should be played with wit.

Starting with Chopin this morning.

From Amazon:

This all-Chopin disc marked Mikhail Pletnev's debut as a pianist on Deutsche Grammophon. Although Pletnev's interpretive approach was castigated in some corners, his playing is admirable and extraordinarily manly, with a decidedly Slavic cast and yet with all kinds of elegance. One is struck repeatedly by Pletnev's crystalline arpeggiations, the velocity of his passage work, his singing tone, his rhythmic suppleness, and, above all, the grandeur of his sound. And does DG ever do a number on that! If you've ever turned pages or played on a real stage, this is the sound you hear: big, resonant, incredibly solid, rich in overtones, and slow to decay. The weight and immediacy of the lower octave are better captured here than on most other recordings, as is the action of the dampers. --Ted Libbey

Great, atmospheric music with which to start the day!

Janine Jansen - Bach

She plays the two and three part inventions specially arranged for violin, cello and viola. She also plays the second partita in D minor. I think the two and three part inventions worked out very well.
