David Russell - Plays Bach.

............... A fine example of Russell's ability to capture the complex and profound spirit of Bach's music is his authoritative performance of the astonishing chaconne from his own transcription of the Partita for solo violin in D minor. .............

This album has become a firm favourite at Castle Vlad - David Russell is a fantastic musician. Very highly recommended for classical guitar enthusiasts.

For a truly wondrous Chaconne, I strongly recommend this :

Obraz znaleziony dla: Franco platino

This is a fantastic recital.

Very much agree regarding the Chaconne on the Platino recital album.

There are a lot of exceptional guitarists out there, in addition to the Holy Trinity of Segovia, Bream and Williams.

The Naxos recordings of guitar are very worth exploring. I posted earlier regarding the Kyuhee Park recital, which I thought exceptional apart from the last track (Impresiones y Paisajes by Jose Manuel Lopez Lopez) , which was a bit too "modern" for my taste.

Those interested in classical guitar may find a You Tube search useful.

Regards,

Vlad

Peter Illyich Tchaikovsky (1840-1893):  Daria Telizyn (piano)

Daria Telizyn is like a kindred spirit for me who sadly left this earth far to young with so much more to accomplish.  Along with a longing for tranquillity one can sense that she excelled in music that is sad and pensive.  Being like minded, I naturally am attracted to her and her playing style.  Her tempos and magnificent touch are perfect.  There is no equivalent to sitting at the piano and celebrating the power of melancholic and reflective music underneath your fingertips.

Very good duet if you like French music and particularly Joe Dassin.

Ysma, Memoirs In Monochrome. WAV Download.

These Guys play this really good combination of instrumental prog rock with heavy prog and progressive metal trappings. The shift between genres in the songs works Very well indeed.

Moving from a collaboration with Mingus, here's the man himself, on a Speakers Corner reissue from the 1990s:

Often overshadowed by 'Black Saint...', perhaps understandably, but this is not only a fine album, but great SQ too. IMHO, of course.

the piano sounds a bit brittle but apparently that's how he likes it and that's how I heard him in Amsterdam on several occasions, too.

Having to hear him live several times at the same venue ( from a different seating ) I am 99% sure that's how his Hamburg Steinway-Fabbrini concert grand sounds like!

It isn't my favourite cuz upper register tends to *klang* but it seems to give him a nice clean bass line which exposes structure of the music.

Beethoven Symphony 3: Toscanini/NBC -1949

Probably the most entertaining set. Might not be *kosher* but sure fun and keeps me smiling.
