What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIII)

2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;
1989 - Double vinyl - Geman pressing...
On the heels of Diana Damrau's Meyerbeer recording, comes Véronique Gens with another unique project, focusing on French works from around the same time period. None of the arias here, loosely themed around the concept of yearning and/or mad women, are well known, and all of them are worth getting to know better. Listening in hires from thumbdrive.
Cheers
EJ

This is lovely.
And so is this one makes you really appreciate a Naim system
Just listened to B Sides and Rarities. Wonderful stuff. Simple, unforced, lovely covers, spot on. I must admit I have never heard of Rumer - thanks for the postings Pcd!
Nigelb, glad you enjoyed them I think I heard a track on the radio several months ago and found the CDs second hand on the internet for £1.19 and £1.99 a real bargain.
It's the Throbbers! Their masterwork from 1979, on 2011 vinyl (remastered by Chris Carter). Why? You gotta love the Gristle!
Tanita Tikaram - Ancient Heart
I got this vinyl for £2.49 at Oxfam last week. It's in perfect condition having been cleaned on my Loricraft PRC4. It's one of those records for reflecting on life - very spiritual.
Wikipedia says "Tanita Tikaram (born 12 August 1969) is a German-born English pop/folk singer-songwriter. She achieved chart success with the singles "Twist in My Sobriety" and "Good Tradition" from her 1988 debut album, Ancient Heart. She is known for her powerful, husky voice, and poetic and somewhat obscure lyrics."
I first heard this on a Uniti Serve I had demoed. Now I have my own copy on vinyl.

Because I'm in the string mood tonight.

Beethoven IX Symphony - Berliner Philharmoniker - Herbert Von Karajan - CD box set
5m SL speaker cable demo into second week. The shear power of all sections of the orchestra is amazing. Mind you the PL Lite power cords on the 282 contributed as did the SL IC.
I feel inclined to listen to the Richards Muti recordings as well.
Anyone got others they like and done comparisons?
First of the day
UK first press (RCA orange label) vinyl from 1977. Because the idea of some 1970s synth magic was more appealing than doing any work...
Another 1970s 'Glis classic, again on UK first press:

I've got the 70's Karajan Beethoven Symphonien on LP and have enjoyed then very much over the last 4 decades. I seem to remember hearing the above a quite a while back, and enjoyed that too.

I'd echo the vote for the Karajan 1970s set, my cheap 1980s reissue vinyl sounds wonderful even now. The Harnoncourt 9 with the COE are my favourites, if you like the faster tempo approach, then I find it gets me right to the heart of the music.

Hi, I have the 1984 box set, there are better recordings as it sounds very compressed & over processed. I bought a re-mastered version which sounds slightly better however, the older versions are much better but are they still available?
Just downloaded Ahmad Jamal "Marseille" from HD Tracks in 24/96. First got turned onto him in 1986, with " Rossiter Road". Great music, fantastic sound. Must start a cloud thingy so I can post the cover.

The 1977 recordings can still be found, the easiest way to find them is to search with Galleria in the search to find the right ones. I haven't seen the 1963 recordings available, but I haven't been looking hard.
