2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;

Mark Whitfield - "7th Ave. Stroll" (1995)
PJ Harvey - Let England Shake
Bought from 'my' Oxfam shop this afternoon where, during a conversation in which I was somewhat reticent, I learned that one of the guys has a very decent Linn/ Naim set which includes an Aro. Was basically just trying to paying for my 3 CDs at £6.47 but nice to have the slightly geekish chat too.
First spin and a first disc with Chambers in the lead. Very promising with a top notch ensemble of Kenny Burrell (guitar), Hank Jones (piano) and Art Taylor (drums). Recording was made 60 years ago and was remastered 10 years ago, both done by Rudy Van Gelder.

I am listen to It must have been love by Roxette. You should care cuz it is classic and gold.
Rediscovering magical recordings from 1960 and 1963. On CD (1991 reissue).

I've resisted getting this double album length "best of album" for a number of years having already got all their material but some of the tracks have been warmed over or extended and are sounding very fine. It's nice to have some of their better tracks in one place too.

The Doors. Eponymous debut (1967) on original issue CD from 1988. I originally bought this album on vinyl then L.A. Woman and fell in love with both. The remaining albums in between fell right into place for me and I've been a huge Doors fan ever since.

I like in General Fliters playing, while better suited for concertos...

Metallica. Eponymous fifth album, aka "The Black Album" on CD from 1991. I'm a rather surficial Metallica fan, but thought it time for something tight, fast, and in my face that gives the speakers and amp a real work out. "Enter Sandman" my favorite song of the band.

Mono vinyl, from the big Rolling Stones in Mono box set. Requested by a houseguest, whose favourite album this is. He's never heard it in mono on an LP12...

I bought this LP (Melodya C01659-60) in what was then the Soviet Union back in 1987. At that time in the USSR, everything was rubbish - especially the food and the coffee - but the records were pretty good. This recording of Schedrin's ballet version of Bizet's famous opera is a pretty good recording of a great performance - on decent vinyl.
Why am I playing it? It's very grey out there today so I thought we could do with a bit of colour...

from the July '78 box set...

Cool SBD bootleg from the Dan. Excellent SQ.
