What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIII)

2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;
FIne, tuneful modern jazz, including an excellent cover of Bowie/Eno's Warszawa. Donny's credits include playing sax on Blackstar. Streaming via Tidal.
Kevin-W posted:Pink Floyd, A Momentary Lapse of Reason, 2017 vinyl remaster. This sounds a hell of a lot better than the UK original first pressing, but no amount of tweaking from Guthrie and co. can disguise the fact that this album is a dog, and by far the worst thing in the entire Floyd canon.
Kevin,
I've got original vinyl and CD and everyone will agree the album is a trudge through the mud for SQ. I like the music well enough though. This is probably the only 2017 remaster I'm considering buying if there is a marked improvement in SQ. I'm a bit confused as to how to interpret your post with regard to "this album is a dog". Are you saying that despite the improvement the sonics are still hopeless or that you don't care for the music?
Beck. Mellow Gold. On CD from 1994. A mélange of genres with an experimental, avant-garde appeal.
Another one of my favs.
A special listen.

“Emancipator’s debut album Soon It Will Be Cold Enough beautifully mixes hip hop beats with guitar feedback and a delicate piano melody,” Rolling Stone says. “You can feel his energy when he performs. His face lights up and you can see how much he enjoys the music.”
Dynamic start of the day...

This is a particularly good one from him and one of my favourites of his.
Original vinyl. Sounding wonderful.
And again. Only this time the CD rip through the NDS. Still enjoyable.
As is often the case, what was supposed to be a quick 5 mins to see how the new amp was settling in turned into a rather more extended listening session...
This seemed fitting as it was such a beautiful morning when i first took the dog out
Elbow - The Seldom Seen Kid
Followed by this excellent album that has really grown on me of late and another one i've found via the forum
Kandace Springs - Soul Eyes
Its a Kings Of Leon morning in preparation for watching them live in Liverpool starting with WALLS and then moving on to Only By The Night and finishing with Youth And Young Manhood all on flac and all via Audirvana/hugo
the start of a laid back vinyl afternoon, as I break in my new 2M Black stylus - here's hoping anyway, with 2 young kids!

I too find straight McLachlan a bit bland. However her remix albums are very good.
e.g. from Bloom (a Tom Middleton mix)
or from Remixed (DJ Tiesto)
....with coffee, first listen...cue the music!
Some great playing on this..

More from the magnificent Sandy Denny. I can only assume this is the voice to which angels aspire.

Sounding lovely via Tidal Masters Hi-Res
For anyone that may be interested this sounds way better playing direct from the Tidal desktop app and has an indicated sample rate (actual frequency) of 24/96 into my M-DAC. Playing this or other Tidal Masters via Audirvana Plus (A+) shows a sample rate of 24/44.1. As mentioned the SQ is appreciably better, fuller, more rounded and detailed with more impact yet easy on the ears... a step up from the equivalent standard redbook album streamed from Tidal. So, for the time being playing the Tidal Masters direct from the desktop and cutting out A+ gives me the best way to enjoy their hi-res files.
Early morning balladeering:
A little bit of Dusty on a Saturday afternoon.
Stay Awhile (1970 UK issue of the 10-track vinyl LP originally released in 1964.
DJ Tiesto, In Search Of Sunrise, with thanks to Gary Shaw for reminding me of this album. I have to say Ms Mclachlan sounds a lot livelier on this! Flac via Audirvana/Hugo played very very loudly
