I'm sure I'm not the only person who first really listened to Alison Krauss on her album with Robert Plant, before that I was vaguely aware of her name because of her Grammy count. I've since been enjoying listening to her work with Union Station, she's got a great voice, and what a fantastic interpreter of songs she is. I'm not sure I'll ever be an out and out bluegrass convert, but if I do get there it'll be through her. (I enjoy bluegrass, but wouldn't yet build a big collection.) I have to go out to meet friends in a minute, but not until I've listened to her beautiful rendition of RT's Dimming of the Day.

Playing the second CD from this Tangerine Tree volume (56), well recorded and a great set list, one of my favourites of theirs.

Steve, I've noticed that you start many of your posts with A+3. What does this mean? I wonder if it's your assessment of music and SQ?
Regards, Clive

Morning Clive, A+3 is my shorthand for Audirvana Plus 3 (i.e. currently operating on version 3) . It's marketed as an audiophile music player for MAC and is considered by many to be the best player, its what I use to stream to my 2nd system from my MacBook Pro. It's a paid for system I think version 3 was a one off payment of $78.

Tangerine Dream
Dream Sequence - Tidal HiFi
First album of the day.

I wasn't wowed by this on first play but it's grown on me since then. Playing this back to back with 'If you wait' makes it feel like it's just one long album as the musical format is the same. No bad thing given the quality of the first album.
London Grammar - Truth Is A Beautiful Thing
Is this the best Mahler symphony set? I don’t know of any better in a very crowded field. Tennstedt’s choice of tempi, phrasing, balance, etc. is “just exactly perfect” and the playing of the LPO is full of energy and dedication. Check out the brass in the first movement of the 3rd…are they having fun or what?
This box has the complete studio recordings (symphonies 1-9 plus Das Lied, 10-Adagio), and three live performances (symphonies 5-7) as a nice bonus. The late 70’s-early 80’s SQ is quite good with a very deep sound stage. I’ve recently seen this 16-CD box set available in the States for $30…a no-brainer!!!
Bass player with Tord Gustaven. Tore Brunborg on sax. Very good.

Hi Steve, how does the SQ compare with the Bootmoon releases of concerts around this period e.g. Preston 1980 or Aachen and Paris 1981?
A fine album from a fine musician. I'm surprised she doesn't get more of a mention on here. She's certainly worth seeking out if you've not heard her music before and this album is a good starting point.

I have a different box set with just the symphonies and the Adagio, I agree, it's wonderful Mahler playing. The 9th is incredibly moving, one of my favourite recordings.

She pops up occasionally on British TV e.g. Jools Holland, Transatlantic series (roots musicians from US, UK and Ireland). A good composer, singer, interpreter, terrific fiddle (viola?) player and a sublime harmony singer.
