Throughly enjoying this first Blue Note title from Tina Brooks quintet. Recorded in March 1958, this is an excellent example of inventive, classy hard bop - with that excellent Rudy Van Gelder recording quality too.
Clive B posted:'Which musical pieces can you no longer tolerate following over exposure at hifi shows'?
Not so much shows but in the shop - Dire Straits, Tracy Chapman, Joan Armatrading and ---- Sade.
Took a while before I could hear these afresh. It's been a while.

More top class hard bop from Tina Brooks. This time 'Back to the Tracks'. I've only recently been introduced to Tina Brooks - what a brilliant discovery. Great tone and technique.

Neil Young - Live at Massey Hall 1971
Great performance, great material. An album that I wouldn't have known about had I not seen it here, so thanks.
It's a sunny Friday afternoon, everyone seems happy, there's a nice-looking cottage pie in the oven so best have a bit of Stevie. Speakers Corner vinyl reissue:

Speaking of Massey Hall has reminded me to play this, which I haven't played for at least four years.

This is great for a quick burst through some of The Who's finest, even better when it's cranked up loud, like now.
This is a brilliant comp CD does what it says on the tin...
Listening to the Volodos Brahms on Tidal. I stated earlier I'd mentally pigeonholed Volodos as a technique driven player, looking at the pieces here I was expecting Op. 76 to be in his sweet spot, and 117/118 to be problematic. How incredibly wrong I was, this is transcendent Brahms playing, essential performances where the flawless technique is used to dig right to the heart of the music. The Cd has been ordered, it'll arrive tomorrow to be ripped, and I'll be listening to it a lot. Thanks so much Bert, I'd completely misjudged Volodos and would never have listened to this.
1974 - Vinyl - U.K. First pressing...
WAV CD rip. Other people have difficult second albums, Springsteen produced one of the most brilliant records of his great career. Wondeful songs, the E-Street band superb, Clemens's playing is amazing on this. I know people who believe that Incident on 57th Street, Rosalita and New York City Serenade make up the single greatest album side of all, I wouldn't go that far, but I can see why they believe it.
I've played this to death over the years and still love it. It's just beautifully sung and played, with a summery sound to fight off the rain outside.
