2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;
Lady from Hong Kong only singing covers...
All this talk wether to buy a Rolex or Casio led me to this...
1959 - Tidal...
Dave Brubeck - Young lions & old tigers.
To celebrate his 75th birthday, Dave Brubeck recorded songs with guest artist. The artists are Roy Hargrove on trumpet, Michael Brecker, Joe Lovano, Joshua Redman and James Moody, all on tenor saxophones, Christian McBride on bass, George Shearing on piano, Gerry Mulligan on baritone sax, and Ronnie Buttacavoli on flugelhorn. Jack Six on bass and Randy Jones on drums accompany most of the tunes.
A bit of a random pick from the shelves, but I'm glad this one came up. Vinyl.
Herbert von Karajan - Smetana & Listz
US ABC-Dunhill first press vinyl. It's my fave Dan album:
great session from 1957...
Joly old Rog's latest, on vinyl, for no real reason other than I like it:

Seemed like a god idea, so I'm doing the same.
2015 - Tidal...
Haven't listened to this in a while. It takes a few listens and the right mood to appreciate it. Brilliant stuff!
Young Fathers...
from the live Munich recordings...
Saw her live last year, an outstanding performance at the University of Chicago.

John Hiatt - Walk On. Cd rip.
A random pick - sounding great - must play it more often.
Amother one from my 30p haul from yesterday, classic Dan, clever songs, sleazy low life tales, wonderful tunes, the band now largely top flight guns for hire, one of the highlights in tFagen and Becker's superb catalogue.
A random pick from the shelves. UK first press vinyl from 1978. I can't remember the last time I played this!

Pictures from an Exhibition, by Modest Mussorgsky | Sarcasms, Op. 17 by Sergei Prokofiev | Visions fugitives, Op. 22 by Sergei ProkofievSix unconfirmed sources have told CNN and MSNBC that Prokofiev wrote the 10th Visions fugitives selection entitled "Ridicolosamente" after they accused him of colluding with the Trump campaign too. He has since cancelled these two garbage cable news stations and avoids the so called progressive left crowd.
But what do you make of the music?
Given that this is Russian music and the Russian scene on the cover I don't want to be the first to say it but I think this should be investigated for any ties to Trump and his associates. I am already under investigation and every movement surveilled and my words are being censored so if you get this message before it is deleted please keep yourself out of harms way and do not listen to this music. Resist ! We must form a resistance !!!!

What a lovely album. I am enjoying this one very much.
Nice tip Ewen - cheers.
Pet shop boys - Very
WAV Rip, I picked this up yesterday without looking very carefully, seeing the early Dowland numbers (presumably lute transcriptions), I assumed it was all early English music rescored for guitar. It turns out to have a wide range of music from the 20th century, music hall, Lennon McCartney and Streets of London among others. On this first listen I enjoyed it a lot, he is a very very fine player, interprets the songs well, in his hands it seems a harmonious whole, Maybe It's Because a Londoner sounds better than I could have expected, overall a very good album.

Dear Florestan,
I believe your political views, as expressed in other parts of the Forum, are the source of some debate? Don't worry, any relationship with Russian music can be pardoned by a very senior US official.
Actually, I already have this on CD. Steven Osborne is a very fine British pianist, who has allegedly recorded and played in person music by a number of Russian composers. Anyone who knows that it is "..from an Exhibition" and not "..at an Exhibition" is clearly too knowledgeable about Russian and is thus deeply politically suspect
In any case, I do look forward to reading your reviews of music.
Regards,
Vlad
Chris Stapleton - From a Room: Volume 1
I know, I know.....I play this way too often. For good reason though.
