What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIII)

2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.

More from Mr Hillage. You have to be in the right mood (or stoned), but sometimes Steve Hillage just hits the spot.

Great record.
I always think the guy on left looks like a stand-in from the Bay City Rollers.

With the Frapptastic news that Will and Alison's new album is but nine weeks away, time to go through the catalogue, chronologically. Original UK vinyl:
Lyle Lovett - I Love Everybody. CD rip.
Came on in the car the other day on random play and I realised I should give it a run at home. Sounding rather good.
Fancied some classic Genesis. This is a peach of an album IMV
Earlier via Tidal.
Julie Byrne: Not Even Happiness.
"Julie Byrne’s 2014 debut had a tiny release but spread far afield through word-of-mouth: here, among a sea of folk sirens, was someone really worth tuning in to. A self-taught fingerpicker, this peripatetic American has a voice of rare elegance, pitched low and misty, and plenty of gentle significance to relay. On her second album, it glides across landscapes both external (Sea As It Glides) and internal (All the Land Glimmered), picking out detail others might not perceive. If anything, the lead track Natural Blue doesn’t sell her charms well enough. Abetted by some sparse orchestration, the beauty of Not Even Happiness takes effect even if you can’t make out Byrne’s measured poeticism: the voice is a balm" The Guardian
Kevin-W posted:Pink Floyd's The Final Cut, new Grundman/Guthrie/Plante master. I already have a UK first press of this, plus a Japanese first press on Sony/Columbia, and this is inferior to both. The other thing that spoils it is in the inclusion of "When The Tigers Broke Free" after "One of the Few", which spoils the narrative and musical flow.
Despite it being the least "Floyd-y" Pink Floyd album, and the abence of Rick Wright, I still think it's a pretty good LP.
Bought this today, and first playing. Unfortunately never had this on vinyl before, so can't compare, but sounds a huge amount better than the Re- realease CD I bought a couple of years ago. Always think of this more of a Roger Waters than a true Floyd album. Have to admit to enjoying it.

Great minds think alike. Just started playing this also on vinyl....
Now playing the secomd disc from the 2-CD "Special Edition" of that stunning debit album - this contains various remixes, experiments etc plus a short film.
One classic Genesis album gave me a craving for another....
Saint Steven - Saint Steven
A very late (1969) flowering of US psych, and the work of one man - Steven Cataldo. Short and melodic, with a bit if sampling from the 1968 Republican Convention and the riots at the Democratic convention. It's a bit of a lost gem.
1995 - Vinyl - 2015 reissue.
Because she's a brilliant songwriter and performer.
More Frappage. 12" maxi-EP from 2001:
Electric Light Orchestra
Time - 24bit 96kHz Wave

TYVM James N for remembering this album. Streaming Tidal now.
UK first press vinyl:
Out of the vinyl collection box set - classic album and this release sounds excellent. Always think it really came together for free on this album, and the first time all 4 excelled. Apart from Rodgers and Kossof, some brilliant bass playing from Andy Fraser and not a half bad performance from Kirke either!

Both - my favourite track from this album is the gorgeous "Hairy Trees", a tune the Frapp played a fair bit in 2003, but which they haven't revisited since...
That's a good track. You've got me going through my Gsldfrapp collection picking out a few more tracks. Not enough hours left to enjoy them all today so going onto my playlist for tomorrow

Joining Mike with a bit of early Genesis, this is another of those excellent Definitive Edition remasters of 1994.
