What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIII)

2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;
This album is just brilliant. Thanks to whoever recommended it.
Another dose of Alison Krauss was needed.
Spectacular, intense performance of Ravel's Sheherazade and other French art songs / erotic fantasies from the turn of the 19th century. The recording is good, but Ms Karg is recorded very close, which points to a slight harshness on top and thinness in her lower register. In return, we get fantastic presence and clear diction. Highly recommended.
Cheers

Because I've always liked this guy's voice, heartfelt catchy tunes that are on the rockier edge of country.

agree with the description of the voice & songs Steve. I saw Chris at the Hammersmith Odeon an age ago - great show, great songs.
Kids are at grandma's, spouse working - enjoying an evening of vocal records.

This are two enjoyable albums...
Mozart's Die Zauberflöte has fared well on records, with enoyable recordings from Levine (RCA), Marriner (Philips), Sawallisch (EMI), Böhm (DG), Solti (Decca), Jacobs (HM) and Abbado (DG) amongst others. Klemperer has always been regarded amongst the top as well, but I've always found it to be slightly disappointing: both the singing and the conducting are on the whole charismatic but deliberate. I mainly miss the dialogue - without it, the opera is reduced to a series of semi-connected scenes. Sound quality, in this latest remaster, is exemplary for a mid-60s recording.
Cheers,
EJ
Rimsky-Korsakov: Scheherazade, Reiner CSO, 1960. RCA 'Living Stereo' SACD. A nice (legendary?) all around recording for a rainy Monday!
Today's arrival:
The problem with Japanese Venus Jazz releases is that aside of the titles nothing is in English.
Next up.....
Sir Roland Hanna - Bird Tracks - Remembering Charlie Parker
This is a solo album released in 1978, a busy year for him since his bio shows that he released eight albums that year. About halfway through the album and I would say if you like a piano soloist playing some classics then you will enjoy this album.

Imagine the problem for the Japanese, ALL releases in the west part of the globe not even include titles in Japanese!!!
Edit for Japan: 日本人にとっての問題を想像してみて、世界の西側のすべてのリリースでも、日本語のタイトルが含まれていない!
Currently Playing.....
Charlie Haden - The Private Collection
A few tracks into this album and enjoying it quite a bit. A good feel with the live recordings with the background noise of the crowd works really well. A real joy......

I enjoyed this so much I downloaded the 24 bit Audio version to listen to again!
Straying into a different part of my music collection for today's selection.
Public Enemy - Apocalypse 91...The Enemy Strikes Black
Still a brilliant album. 'Heartland' seems even more relevant in 2017 (as does most of the album)
The The - Infected
