2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;
Thunderstorms - so I would have liked to listen to something, but right now I only can listen to myself......and the sound of thunder.....
Bert, iPhone and headphones :-)

Rae Morris - Live in the Studio on Radio 2 (NOW) - http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2
Wings - Venus and Mars
As good as Band On The Run
After sitting two hours on the noisy tractor under the blazing sun, cooling off with:
Superb live album from 1979
Someone on another forum had posted that they'd been playing Quadrophenia, which I suggested might be the greatest rock album of all time. But then there's also this one, Who's Next. Most bands would be really fortunate to create just one memorable single. But Pete Townshend certainly hit the spot with these two albums. Both masterpieces IMHO.
Buddy Whittington- Six String Svengali. Also a great album. Seriously entertaining lyrics too.
Try 'I had to go see Alice' for a real hoot.
'Deadwood and Wire' is fun too, especially if you have an interest in Vintage Electric Guitars..
Next up .......
Neil Cowley Trio - Live At Montreaux 2012
Neil Cowley (piano), Rex Horan (bass), Evan Jenkins (drums) with Alex Eichenberger (cello), Helen Sanders-Hewett (viola), Miles Brett (violin) and Julian Ferraretto (violin)
Recommended above by Steve (PAPER PLANE) and since I did enjoy the 'Radio Silence' album yesterday it is a no brainer! Did notice that the bass player has changed for this album plus the addition of a string section. Looking forward to listening to this album, coming up in the next four minutes!
just found myself playing this, on vinyl. good to hear MB again...
enjoy

Next up.......
Bill Evans - Waltz For Debby
Bill Evens (piano), Scott Lafaro (bass), and Paul Motion (drums)
I played the 'Bill Evans Trio - Sunday at the Village Vanguard' a couple of weeks ago and it is nice to get back to 1961 and hear more of the 'historic' sessions.
.....and a thanks to HAIM RONEN for the mention above!
Now playing......
Marc Ford - Holy Ghost
Picking something out of the Naim Record collection.....
Trichotomy an exiting jazz trio. One of their earlier albums which you can get through Bandcamp, many might like it...
Good to hear this again after maybe a thirty year gap - I used to have the vinyl. Of its time perhaps, but great tunes and great musicians.

Just about the sexiest singer on the planet.
Possibly....
Sexy as in very sexy voice Nick. Mind you, she's not a bad looking young lady.
I really enjoy Arvo Pärt's music, and this one particularly so. It's very calming - something I need as I'm spending the day preparing for a colonoscopy tomorrow. Anyone who has had one will know all about what happens the day before...
Laura Veirs - July Flame
Breaking the quiet of a dark, wet morning.
Voices, bandoneon, trumpet. An unlikely combination, but it really works.
Lorian Pellissier Quintet - Biches Bleus
Excellent modern jazz (hard bop). Bought this album today for 1,60 euro on Qobuz, an absolute steal imo.
From amazon:
'Biches Bleues' is the second album by the Florian Pellissier Quintet. Led by the pianist and composer Pellissier, who was a classmate of Robert Glasper in New York, and is one of the best kept secrets of French jazz.
The chemistry between these five musicians was already very apparent on their first album 'Le diable et son train', released in 2012, and which enjoyed a good reception from the public and media. It works even better on 'Biches Bleues', as the group evoke the classic hard bop and spiritual jazz sound but with a modern twist, on seven excellent original compositions by Florian, plus Jef Gilson's "Valse Pour Hélène" and Wayne Shorter's "Dance Cadaverous".
Personnel: Florian Pellissier (piano), Christophe Panzani (tenor and soprano saxophone), Yoann Loustalot (trumpet, flugelhorn), Yoni Zelnik (bass), David Georgelet (drums)
Very fine trio jazz, with the always wonderful John Taylor in top form.
And more from John Taylor, this time solo. It's a great album, beautifully played and with a lovely recorded sound, more lush than the ECM albums. Anyone who likes jazz piano should get hold of a copy.
Just lovely music
