2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.

R.E.M. - Eponymous
As far as I know, R.E.M. haven't released an eponymous album. Have I missed one?

Sam Rivers Trio - Firestorm. Rivbea 16/44.1 flac. A good one, the CD released in 2007 is made up of recordings from 2001 by the multi-instrumentalists trio. The late Rivers was in his late 70s then but you would not know it.

"While the sound of early instruments is reminiscent of chiaroscuro Baroque splendours, the bandoneon calls up the urban world of the tango. Combining the two, as Daniel Brel (b. 1950) does in his works, blurs these distinctions, allowing the instruments to speak with their own voices. The result is an extremely personal type of music that is both poetic and poignant, born of the moving encounter between Daniel Brel and Vincent Dumestre and his musicians."
Found in a box of 'rarely listened to' CDs. Revived by my new Naim system.
Youssou N'dour Immigrés on Earthworks label.
I think it was purchased from the World Music section in my local Virgin Megastore around 25 years ago (those were the days) after his contribution on Peter Gabriel's So album.

Now Playing.......

Bill Evans - The Paris Concert - Edition two
It early evening now and continuing on with Bill. Completely enjoyed his 'You Must Believe In Spring' album first thing this morning and 'The Paris Concert - Edition one' earlier this afternoon. Four tracks into the second edition and it is another winner.
.....on deck in the queue

Herbie Hancock - Gershwin's World
I saw the mention above from JEROEN20 and after listening to Hancock's 'River - The Joni Letters' yesterday I needed to give this a listen. Taking a look at the liner notes it has Joni Mitchell singing a couple of songs, Stevie Wonder contributing vocals and harmonica along with a host of other musicians including Alex Al, Cyro Baptista, Kathleen Battle, Terri Lynn Carrington, James Carter, Ira Coleman, Chick Corea, Charles Curtis, Made Dembelle, Massamba Diop, Kenny Garrett, Marlon Graves, Brian Green, Bireyma Guiye, Eddie Henderson, Bakithi Kumalo, Cheik Mbaye, Robert Sadin, Wayne Shorter and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, along with others.
Looking forward to this......
Between severe rain storms, the guys are at least wearing raincoats:

Recorded in 1956:
Sam Rivers - Streams. CD-rip. Another good one recorded live at the1973 Montreux Jazz Festival

Now playing.....

Laura Shay - Blue Light Sessions
Listening to something new, mentioned by NIGELB above, and I like the color blue.....
First track (Bedroom Light) is very nice, great voice & lyrics. A quick look at the Laura Shay website reveals: she is a part-time singer/songwriter, a full time Speech-Language Pathologist, and occasionally works as an Adjunct Professor of Interpersonal Communication. She has also worked as an actress with some of her songs appearing on TV shows and movies. The second track is very nice as well..... Worth a listen.
Now Playing......

Lisa Simone - All is Well
I saw this mentioned by EWEMON yesterday and wanted to give it a listen. Tonight I thought it would make a good nightcap. Listening to the second song, 'Finally Free,' perhaps it should have waited as a wakeup. A beautiful strong soulful voice, really nice, she has my attention.
Grigory Sokolov - Bach: Art of the fugue

She is Nina Simone's daughter.
Ben Folds/ Nick Hornby - Lonely Avenue
A bouncy, uplifting collaboration between the singer songwriter and the writer. Top choons. Wordsmithing of the first order.
Ivo Janssen - Bach: the art of the fugue
I decided to listen to Bach's art of the fugue again. This time played by Ivo Janssen. I prefer Ivo Janssen's performance over Sokolov's.

Anne McCue - Roll
Goes a bit awry towards the end but more than worth it for the guitar intro on I want you back

WOW over Sokolov, will need to check this out then...
On CD:-

Steve Hillage - Green
The half-speed remasters of Brian Eno's first four solo albums. Brilliant!

Johann Pachelbel / Antonio Vivaldi / Tomaso Albinoni - Canon & Gigue - The Four Seasons - Adagio - : Wolfgang Schneiderhan, Festival Strings Lucerne, Rudolf Baumgartner. Sweet sounding vinyl!
