Uncle Lucius - And You Are Me

Why? Honestly? I was listening to the obligatory HiFi demo track 'Keep The Wolves Away' off this album and thought maybe I should listen to the rest of it.

It is on Tidal.

Update: A few more tracks in and this is a fine album IMHO. I am ashamed to say that prior to today I only paid superficial attention to this album to listen to the HIFi demo track - which is rather superficial of me.

Following Richard Thompson OBE with Dougie MacLean OBE, Who Am I is a beautiful folk album, sensitively sung by one of Scotland's finest singer-songwriters. Talking with my Father is a wonderful song.

The Tidal play seemed a bit thin and dull sounding, just checked and it's a 320k MP3, music is still lovely.

Allmans, Seven Turns. Dipping into a few tracks, but inspired by the wish to hear the magnificent 'Gambler's Roll'. One of my favourite tracks .

Herbie Hancock - Tribute to Miles

Herbie Hancock - Tribute to Miles

Description on Tidal: This Miles Davis tribute album brings back four-fifths of his second classic quintet with Wallace Roney the logical choice to fill in for the late trumpeter. Roney comes across as a sideman and is not as forceful here as one would have hoped. Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter and Tony Williams had all grown with time and this reunion has Hancock and Williams taking on more prominent leadership roles than in the earlier days. With the exception of the drummer's "Elegy," all of the music "("So What," "RJ," "Little One," "Pinocchio," "Eighty One" and "All Blues") was regularly performed by the quintet back in the '60s. In general this reunion is a success even if it contains no new revelations. It is particularly nice to hear Wayne Shorter in this setting again. ~ Scott Yanow

Opening track is sweet!

Allmans, Idlewild South, Kevin's post above made me think it was time for some of the Brothers, and I fancied a listen to In Memory of Elizabeth Reed. And great the album is.

Eoink, do you prefer the album cut of 'Elizabeth ' or the live at Fillmore cut?

Allman thinking led me to Derek. Great, but weird album. Sounds live, but...

its like you wandered into a pub to find all your idols on stage. Sadly, they'd all been in the pub since dawn and forgotten even basic mike technique... Still great stuff though

They're both wonderful, I think I'd probably go for the energy of Fillmore 8 times out of 10, I listened to Live at Fillmore a couple of weeks ago, so decoded to go for Idlewild tonight.

Well put. I'd go with that. Nice to have both.

A gap in my education - I had never listened to this classic 1972 performance before today. High-res flac, on DVD-R.

cheers,

EJ

Finishing off the evening with Allan Holdsworth, Atavcrohn. Wonderful music, lyrical, the early use of the  Synthaxe giving Holdsworth opportunity to explore complex soundscapes, the incredible band staying with him, the wonderful vocals on the finisher adding even more. A joyous album, superb sound quality from the 24/96 download (thanks again to Dave for pointing out the incredible bargain on HDTracks). Wonderful listening.

Following the conversation with Kevin above, I couldn't go to bed without listening to the Allmans play Elizabeth Reed live at the Fillmore, a great live band caught at the height of their powers.
