What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIII)

2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;
A few years older according to the date it was recorded, but musically still a couple of decades ahead of today!
Beethoven String Quartets Op 18 No 1-6 - The Budapest String Quartet
I bought the the first and third LP for £4.49 each at Oxfam. They are mono from the 1950s and have been cleaned on my Loricraft PRC4. Since completely the SL loom with the DIN to XLR these sound amazing even with a stereo cartridge. The other records and CDs sound so much better as well, but these sounded a bit 'mono' and tired before. Now the music is so exciting. If the other monos I bought at the same time are as good I will be repeating the mistake. Before stereo they didn't need to mark whether it was mono or stereo, and no seeing mono I thought they were stereo.
Has anyone else found that monos are really good to listen to? Perhaps you would like to relate your experience.
Phil
Note to self : I must play this more often.
A real gem of an album. Van at his very best.
The live part...
Some old stuff ........... still great (Fish - what a voice he has had)
Now playing......
Natalie Cole - Unforgettable
One of my old favorite CD's from '91, 22 classic songs that were performed by her father Nat King Cole and then recorded by Natalie.

An album I've enjoyed for very many years.
Personally don't think Macca has made anything as good as this.
Haven't yet fully listened to it, it looks like she is playing with the breaks..., extending them beyond what you expect...
Just out on Bandcamp.

I have not heard these recordings, but have you tried the Busch Quartet Beethoven cycle? Recorded around1930, but truly sublime.

I agree, ewemon
I also agree that Band on the Run is his best...Venus and Mars I think is his other (or next) strongest offering.
fantastic performance/recording!
Minimal reggae/dub with the great Paul St Hilaire on some vocals.
Igor Levit - Bach
Art Tatum - The Greatest Piano of Them All. CD-rip. Solo Art. A 1954 Verve recording, this Poll Winners issued CD adds bonus tracks and in good sound.
Blue Mitchell - Big 6.
Nice jazz by Blue Mitchell. Recorded in 1958.
Michiel Stekelenburg - Layers
Michiel Stekelenburg - Guitar, compositions
Efraim Trujillo - Sax
Jeroen van Vliet - Piano
Guus Bakker - Double Bass
Pascal Vermeer - Drums
Descriptions from bandcamp:
LAYERS is the second album of guitarist/composer Michiel Stekelenburg from The Netherlands. His debut album Hypnos was received with wide acclaim. As a result, the internationally renowned North Sea Jazz festival invited Michiel for their 2013 edition.
His origins in rock music have influenced both his playing and his compositions. Critics consider his style as 'modern jazz, avant-garde, hot-blooded and sometimes brutal'. On the other hand, 'small, intense and melodical'.
Moving onto disc two this evening. This is so way ahead that I just never tire of listening to it. There are so many new musical ideas going on here, yet somehow it maintains direction and continuity.
Continued with the same enjoyable crew...
1977 - Vinyl - U.K. First pressing...
Naim and Nat King Cole a wonderful way to relax.
