IMHO this is the best version of the Opera that I have heard.
Yes, great stuff - I was hooked from first note to last, couldn't sleep because of the haunting final scene, where Butterfly blindfolds her son, gives him a little flag to wave at daddy while she commits suicide. In this scene, the soprano usually increases volume, riding on the music, but Freni does it here as written in the score - quietly, which makes sense as her young son is just a few feet away. I came in late in office the next day - fortunately my boss is just as crazy about opera as I am!
