What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIII)

2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;
It's been a long old day, time to unwind with a bit of live Zep at their peak.

That's a belter.

Black and White - Stranglers. Somehow the 7in white single that was included with the first 75000 copies Is still present and intact.
That's my favourite album of theirs. I used to have it (with the white vinyl EP) but it went walkies when I was at Uni. Must re-acquire it. I used to love that EP, especially the deeply un-PC "Tits" (very amusing to a 15 year old).

John Scofield & Pat Metheny - I Can See Your House From Here
Having just heard a duet which included Pat Metheny I thought I would go with another. Pushed over the edge by the mention by CLIVE B above......
Just finished the second track and enjoying this album quite a bit.
Glad you like it. I admire both players very much.
I've now moved to this one, which is a bit more 'out there', a bit more stretching on the ears, but I adore it, especially the bluesy track with Bill Frisell, called 'Bill Me'. Great guitar tone as usual from Mr Scofield.

Some great live prog metal n' goth complete with a full orchestra and choir that pushes a lot of buttons when you fancy it. Crank it way up and enjoy the CD or better still the DVD where you can watch Sharon and crew belting it out.
A bit of Green-era Mac. Reproduction quality is a bit flat but those old favourites are still enjoyable.

My favourite Mac era.

Agreed Bert. This is a very enjoyable album. I'm sure Tony2011 will disagree though!
Yes, Clive. It is the democratic freedom of speech right that comes with being born in a free country

I know; I was just having a poke at you, Tony, as I know you're no fan of Mr Wilson (and you may have realised that I'm no fan of his remastering of classic rock albums either).

Yes indeed Mike, two different sounds and I have recently made peace with "the new band" and have been thoroughly enjoying and appreciating them albeit 40 years or so too late! Hey-ho...

I can still recall that album being released, Tony. Rather hyped-up in advance with Blind Faith being labelled a 'super group'. Must say at the time I was underwhelmed when I first heard it, but I still bought the album and later the CD. Must give the latter a play again soon.
Andras Schiff - Bach
From allmusic.com
AndrĂ¡s Schiff recorded his first set of J.S. Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier for London in the mid-1980s, but the passage of time, personal reflection, and improvements in digital recording have contributed to making his second recording of "The 48" a necessity, this time on ECM New Series. As eloquent as ever, and always meticulous in execution, Schiff plays the two books of preludes and fugues without use of the piano's pedals, so his touch and control are evident in every note and in the interplay of lines, which are cleanly separated. The transparent recording, which is de rigueur for ECM, is a great aid in conveying Schiff's scrupulous playing, so the music almost seems to exist in its own pristine, abstract realm, without the botherments of background noises or sounds of physical exertion. However, there is an ideal amount of resonance in the studio space that heightens the timbres of the piano without blurring the music, so Schiff doesn't perform in a vacuum. The earlier recordings garnered high praise from critics and Schiff's many admirers, so this exceptional presentation is sure to win him a new and well-deserved audience. Highly recommended.
1969 - Vinyl - U.K. First pressing...
First.....Sean Rowe - Madman
...then Kandace Springs - Soul Eyes
....then Chris Stapleton - Traveller
....and now Diana Krall - The Girl In The Other Room
Why these? Well I thought I would put new music discovery on the back burner for an evening and just play some of my favourites.
Very good Bach, will try more of her recordings...
1971 - vinyl - U.K. First pressing...
It was a toss between this one and Thank God... and it won by a whisker. Just....

yes indeed Steve, this has become a firm favourite and has been a 'go to' album of mine for a while now. Just gets the adrenalin going.....I see a few 'heavier' albums being posted today so I am guessing that we all might have had the same sort of day!

Nice Tony, one of my all time favourite albums.
Led Zep, Deus Ex Machina, a lavish new bootleg - released last week - from those insane people at Empress Valley. The March 21 show from the '75 tour (Seattle) in audience and ex ual soundboard. Remarkable stuff. Great version of "The Crunge" with some incredible JPJ bass playing.
Three and a half hour concert, thus:
Rock and Roll
Sick Again
Over the Hills and Far Away
In My Time of Dying
The Song Remains the Same
The Rain Song
Kashmir
No Quarter (28 minutes!)
Since I've Been Loving You
Trampled Under Foot
Moby Dick (29 minutes!)
Dazed and Confused (43 minutes!)
Stairway to Heaven
Whole Lotta Love
The Crunge
Black Dog
Communication Breakdown
Heartbreaker
Antonio Forcione and Sabina Sciubba - Meet Me In London
Carrying on with some old favourites.
Rolling Stones - Stripped
Worth it for the more than usually countryfied Dead Flowers alone.
Kevin-w, where do you buy this Led Zep stuff from ?
Loads of bootlegs I'd like, but I can't find them. Maybe I'm a touch naive....
Saw it now a couple of times, so had to try it..., pretty good...
