Bill Evans & Toots Thielemans - Affinity
The Bill Evans journey continues and this is a lovely album.
From Tidal: Pianist Bill Evans (who doubles on electric piano on this album for the final time in the recording studio) welcomes guest harmonica player Toots Thielemans and Larry Schneider (on tenor, soprano and alto flute) to an outing with bassist Marc Johnson (making his recording debut with Evans) and drummer Eliot Zigmund. The material contains some surprises (including Paul Simon's "I Do It for Your Love" and Michel Legrand's "The Other Side of Tonight") and only two jazz standards ("Body & Soul" and "Blue and Green") with the latter being the only Evans composition. Excellent if not essential music that Evans generally uplifts. ~ Scott Yanow
Listening to CD2 : Symph No. 2 + Violin Concerto OP. 53
that 'haunting' sound... !

Clive B posted:For some reason at the end of last week I wanted to listen to something new by Loreena McKennitt. It seems that much of her material is hard to obtain new, but I managed to get a s/h copy of this album, which I played for the first time this evening. Not as magical as Book of Secrets, but there are some appealing melodies. I think it might be one of those albums which improve with repeat plays.
CD. Excellent. The best SM in my catalog, recently acquired.

I'd never heard of it and just Youtube'd the entirety. A quality production with a little more pace than the original. I'm not a fan of covers and one listen was enough for me, but happy to have heard it. Thanks.

Some of the greatest chops out there - there is a real good biography of him out called "One Long Note", and if you look on YouTube you can find a documentary his daughter did - broken into several parts. A truly tragic figure who was ruined by drugs, had a death that was mysteriously never explained, and sad inasmuch as if guitarists were well known based on their abilities, everyone would know who this guy was. Chet Atkins tried very hard to help him, but he just couldn't be helped.
Correction: Biography of Lenny Breau is "One Long Tune" - apologies.
