What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIII)
Posted by: Richard Dane on 01 January 2017
2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;
Just reissued on Bandcamp:
Great performance of the Sinfonia Concertante; by comparison, Mozart's violin concertos have less to offer musically, and Frang plays them cleanly but not with the distinction that Zimmermann or Faust brings to them.
Cheers
EJ
On the original vinyl:-
The Oscar Peterson trio - The good life.
With Joe Pass and Neils-Henning Orsted Pederson
(1972)
Surely no reason why is needed to listen to this classic?

Indeed, young Steve!
I was going to say that I wish, I wish I was young but given the state of the world today I'll settle for where I am.
1967 - Vinyl - U.K. First pressing...
The start of it all and released 50 years ago. Time flies...
Otis Spann - Otis Spann Is The Blues.
Indeed, this gentleman is the blues.
Gosh, Otis can't arf play the joanna!
Another artist that I've discovered through this thread. I'm very happy to add my recommendation to this album.
The Black Crowes-Live
trying to make up for missing Tge Magpie Salute which are playing 3 shows around me this weekend and I can't make any of them!

(1971 | 1985 Toshiba-EMI Japan "Black Triangle")
Following on from the "The music to get high to" thread and Tony's Floyd above, I'll go with one of my all time favourites extracted from a very fine source.
Edie Brickell - Volcano
I have possibly OD'd on the blues this afternoon and am now expecting the dog to die and the wife to run off with the postman so need to lift the mood. This will do nicely.
Oscar Peterson - Exclusively for my friends
My favourite of RH's BBC tapes series. Includes live recording of "One of those days in England (parts 2 -10)" which is simply sublime. Recorded live at the Palace Theatre in London.
Keith Jarrett - Eyes of The Heart
Three sides of vinyl and a cold San Mig to chill with, after a shift.
1978 - vinyl - U.K. Pressing...
Change of tempo. I felt like listening to "The Jack" with Scott on vocals and the best version of "Let There Be Rock" ever.
Now playing.....
Emily Barker - Despite the Snow
Enjoyed the 'Sweet Kind of Blue' album earlier and wanted to explore Emily's music, this album is from 2008. The music is different, a little more bluegrass oriented, but still very, very nice.
SACD/CD
Original vinyl
Why? All this talk of Dire Straits led me astray...
steve
Graham Parker and The Rumour - Mystery Glue
The man's still got it.
Rush, Exit Stage Left, my favourite live album, 24 bit flac 2015 version via Audirana/Hugo
.....now playing
John Stewart - Bullets in the Hourglass
Thanks to QUAD 33 for mentioning this John Stewart album in another thread. First track 'Irresistible Targets' fantastic.....fantastic album, worth a listen!
With Hank Jones (piano), Kenny Burrell (guitar) and Art Taylor (drums), recorded 60 years ago.
