What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIII)

2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;
Might as well join in the Straits-Fest.

System/my ears in fine form this morning and Vince Gill sounding pretty glorious
2014 - vinyl...
Whether Damn will have the same epochal impact as To Pimp a Butterfly remains to be seen, but either way it sounds like the work of a supremely confident artist at the top of his game. Kendrick Lamar, it seems, is going to have to live with raised expectations for the foreseeable future.

Despite the Floyd's dislike, the album isn't as bad as it's painted by various sources, and is certainly not the worst Pink Floyd album.
I agree. I find it's an album which works best on lazy summer days. I wouldn't play this in the winter for some reason.
For winter there is Animals

Why?
Words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup / They slither wildly as they slip away across the universe / Pools of sorrow, waves of joy are drifting through my opened mind / Possessing and caressing me
The first album I ever owned, back in my pre-teen years. Despite being played to death on my parents' one box "hifi", it survived and I play the same copy with much pleasure on the TMS. Still raises goosebumps for me.
Grace Slick and the Great Society, Conspicuous, vinyl. A friend had this at college and we listened to it incessantly, it's been a favourite of mine ever since. I have it digitally on the Collector's Item double package, but spotted this in Muse Cafe record shop in Hebden Bridge yesterday. (Sid was playing it on his turntable, I waited until White Rabbit finished, then bought it.) Some tape hiss from the live recording, but otherwise excellent SQ, record in perfect nick. Grace's voice is fantastic on this, the performances have great energy, Sally, Someone to Love and White Rabbit are deservedly famous, the other songs hold their own, if you like psychedelic rock and don't have this, give it a go.
First 'spin' of the hires issue, freshly downloaded on USB thumbdrive via the Bryston BDP2 (which, IMO, remains the ultimate solution if you want to listen to high resolution audio without resorting to streaming).

A great debut album from Toby Marks that hits all the right funky, techno, electro, ambient, psychedelic buttons.
Superb ensemble and for a 1956 recording just superb too!

6 trax off his up and coming album due out Oct
Great saxophone trio...
ELP Brain Salad Surgery, vinyl, with the foldout cover, another purchase from Hebden Bridge yesterday. Why? Prog at its proggiest, musically excellent, the Jerusalem setting works well. Karn Evil is a tour de force of keyboards. Welcome back my friends, to the show that never ends!
I'm not sure I should have read the music to get high to thread before going out yesterday, this, the Great Society played before, a Jefferson Airplane double album all ended up in my shopping.
The Doors-Morrison Hotel
only 2 weeks left until football starts and this is how I like to start my tailgate. Just getting ready for the season to start.
Sunday in the UK, over cast, 18C, 80% humidity........it's just the right kind of music
All this talk of getting stoned put me in the mood...

Martha Argerich - Le piano roi.
Radio Paradise, natch. Also:
Allan Holdsworth - The Man Who Changed Guitar Forever (download from 7Digital, £11.99 In 24/96 hi-res - thanks to AndyP19 on the "Music On Special Offer" thread). Despite the hyperbole of the title, he really was something special.
Christina Pluhar - The Complete Alpha recordings. £10 Qobuz download in CD res.
Currently downloading a number of classic jazz albums in hi-res on offer from Qobuz.
Did anyone watch the BBC Proms Scott Walker tribute two weeks ago? I thought Susanne Sundfor and John Grant were excellent and Richard Hawley and Jarvis Cocker a bit disappointing.
Happy listening!
