What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIII)

2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;
1967 - Tidal...
2014 - Tidal...
1997 - Tidal...
Trains to Taung by South African Jazz pianist and composer Paul Hanmer.
'Snow Borne Sorrow' by Nine Horses (Sylvian/Jansen/Friedman)
A major David Sylvian fan since 1987, I've only just allowed myself to open up this 2005 gem.
& I'm glad I did- thanks to TIDAL via iPhone4S.
1993 - Tidal...
Haven't listened to this in a while. Have the CD and also it ripped it somewhere but laziness got the better of me, so on tidal. This is jazz with some serious attitude. Love it!
Lloyd Cole and the Commotions - Mainstream
In a way my favourite record of theirs, more mature. Easily overlooked in favour of the more poptastic earlier two but I like this one very much. The photography and design too.
Oscar Pettiford - Complete big band studio recording.
With:
- Art Farmer
- Kenny Dorham
- Donald Byrd
- Jimmy Cleveland
- Tommy Flanagan
- Lucky Thompson
- Benny Golson
(1998)
Recorded in Boston between 5th - 7th February 1970, some truly great moments in these gigs with fantastic version of some of their early classics in this three part collection. It was to be the last time Peter Green would play live with the band, leaving shortly after this.

All 3 discs in the set are truly wonderful British Blues albums

Yep, totally agree with that. They should be made compulsory!

Why did you wait so long? It is excellent.

Paul Hanmer - Trains to TAUNG
Taking the lead from TONY2011 above and giving 'Trains to TAUNG' out for a spin.....
Opening Track - Wow! Thank you Tony, I am enjoying this and hope the rest of the album is as captivating.
2016 vinyl reissue of 1966 Blue Note jazz organ classic - an added bonus is that Grant Green is on guitar!
One thing leads to another and in this case, Volume Two.
Paul Motian - Lost in a dream
This isn't cutting edge, isn't breaking boundaries, and won't challenge anyone. It's just an extraordinarily lovely album, beautifully played and nicely recorded. A perfect antidote to the gloomy weather.
On CD:-
Orbital - Blue Album
Lizz Wright - Freedom & Surrender
No apologies for posting another album from the wonderful Ms. Wright. On here she is joined by guest Gregory Porter and their duet is just lovely.
Very nice-sounding early 1970s UK pressing. A new purchase, bought yesterday:

Thanks for posting this one Kevin-W! I didn't knew John Patton. I'm listening right now via Tidal and really enjoying it. And indeed Grant Green is always a welcome bonus! Have to add this one to my shopping list. Regards, Jeroen.
