2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;
Now Playing.....
Steven Wilson - To the Bone
I recently played this album and enjoyed it quite a bit, so here we go again!
Dennis was born in Seattle, Washington, United States. His mother was a violinist and his father a singer, and the family was in vaudeville, so he was early exposed to music. In 1933 he joined Horace Heidt's orchestra as a vocalist and pianist. Later on, he formed his own band, with Dick Haymes as vocalist. He became vocal coach, arranger, and accompanist for Martha Tilton, and worked with a new vocal group, The Stafford Sisters. Jo Stafford, one of the sisters, joined the Tommy Dorsey band in 1940 and persuaded Dorsey to hire Dennis as arranger and composer. Dennis wrote prolifically, with 14 of his songs recorded by the Dorsey band in one year alone, including "Everything Happens to Me", an early hit for Frank Sinatra.[1]
After four years in the United States Air Force in World War II, Dennis returned to music writing and arranging, getting a boost from his old friend Dick Haymes, who hired him to be the music director for his radio program. With lyricist Tom Adair he wrote songs for Haymes' program.
Now Playing......
John Mellencamp - Freedom's Road
Monday evening, home from work - wife still at work, a fine album and worthy to have the volume turned up! Yea, that sounds right......
Now Playing......
Bonnie Raitt - Slipstream
This album was mentioned above by KEVIN J CARDEN (thanks Kevin) and I really enjoy Bonnie and have not heard this particular album before. Into the second track and Bonnie is sounding mighty fine. Her voice is not as strong as her younger days, but that may just be the first couple of songs. Truth be told, I think I will always enjoy listening to Bonnie sing and play her guitar!

It was less than I expected here too Haim, and we were close to the prime viewing area. Down in SC it got darker; my nephew in Columbia said it looked like dusk/twilight...here in Charlotte it just made the light look "weird" - got to look at it with the glasses, which was kind of cool, and all the crescent shaped lights in the shadows, which I photographed.
As for listening...
Howlin' Wolf - The Back Door Wolf, 1973. CD-rip. His last studio recording.

Joe Henry - "Scar" (2001)
I bought this only because Ornette Coleman played on it but I now think JH is a great singer/songwriter and would recommend any of his albums post Scar - I haven't heard anything earlier.
Hi Res
Nice album played with the right type of feel

One thing leads to another and in this case, Volume Two.
Thanks for the heads up. I had no idea these albums existed. I'm just listening now on Spotify/Sonos system. Sounds great. Interestingly, the track listing on the albums on Spotify don't seem to match the album shown above even though it has the same name and cover art etc.. for example, the 25+minute (!) Rattlesnake Shake is last track on volume 3 on Spotify versions. Odd.
Scanning into my newly acquired album...
Well recorded and interesting Naim release. It is not easy music but give it a chance and the doors will open upon repeated listening; http://www.naimrecords.com/
''Produced by Django Bates collaborator Petter Eldh, Ornithophobia is Troyka’s best album to date, and a kaleidoscopic series of impressions of how fast they’re moving on.'' The Guardian
I sat down and listened to this last night at home and have it playing again on my work setup this morning. I played it to death (on vinyl) at the time but i still find this a lovely album to listen to now.
Voice, songs and the quality of musicianship on this album still make it a great listen.
Rickie Lee Jones - Rickie Lee Jones
Nice warm sound, with voice being sometimes used as an instrument....
Byron Janis/Antal Dorati/MSO/LSO - Rachmaninoff PC 2&3. SACD. Nice.

Kevin, these 3 are well worth getting if you are into this Peter Green period. An easier and cheaper way of getting all three CDs nowadays is to buy the FM triple album box set from "the River" for under £13 new, simply called Boston and has this album art:
The individual albums tracklists and running times should look like this, I haven't checked Spotify:
Now Playing.......
Don Henley - The End Of The Innocence
Ripping albums last night to the NAS and this album had 5 tracks that had errors. Three attempts and the same tracks with errors..... Giving it a listen, so far so good.
Yo-Yo Ma; Perlman; Barenboim; CSO- Mendelssohn VC, Brahms DC. CD rip. Good one.
Now playing.....
Nine Horses - Money for All
Saw a few members (CD2NAIT2ELA1, badlyread, and KLYDE) mention Nine Horses and I never listened to any of their album before. A search of Tidal revealed 'Money for All' and thought I would give it a spin. The first track 'Money for All' was very nice......continuing on.

I love music with Perlman and Barenboim together, their long friendship shows in the joy of the music making, I'll pick this up, it looks great, three musicians I've loved since I first started listening to classical music.

In that case I am sure you will like it. Good move!
