What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIII)

2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;
Brilliant posted:John Handy - Monterey Jazz Fest 1965. 1996 Koch CD-rip. Also available (and more) on the Mosaic Select 3cd box.
A desert island disc for me. Fantastic soloing and energy.
On CD:-
Lisa Hannigan - Passenger
On CD:-
Hiss Golden Messenger - Heart Like A Levee
On CD:-
Arcade Fire - Everything Now
Haim on my Naim.
Haim were made for Naim weren't they?
Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750): Alina Ibragimova (violin)
Sonatas | Partitas
Musically superb throughout. A fine evolution of Mr Wilson's solo canon. He seems to be aiming for more mainstream appeal and there's nothing wrong with that. I believe it has made number one in the poptastic album charts.
It's a shame that the mastering is so lo-fi-centric. My main system mangles it into a (spatially and dynamically) flat and congested mush. It sounds a lot better on my second system.
John.
Offa Rex - "The Queen Of Hearts" (2017)

A classic album. What a band they were. A fond (though old) memory is seeing them perform this live. There may only have been three of them but the speaker cabinet count on stage exceeded that of Deep Purple!
A lovely minty UK first press (1969) picked up at the weekend. Absolutely glorious:
Rosalyn Tureck - Bach
now playing.....
Leonard Cohen - Songs From The Road
Finished the day with a Leonard Cohen album, so starting the day with a Leonard Cohen album, makes sense...... Almost through this album and there are a lot of wonderful songs, if you like Leonard you will ike this.
From the notes on Tidal: Given that Leonard Cohen's international concert tours of the late 2000s were prompted by the fact his former manager made off with his life's savings, only a curmudgeon would blame the man for trying to make the enterprise as profitable as possible. Roughly 14 months after releasing Live in London, which preserved Cohen's July 2008 performance at London's 02 Arena, the venerable singer and songwriter presented Songs from the Road, featuring 12 tunes from his 2008 and 2009 concert dates.
More vintage but minty Scott on vinyl. Another purchase from last weekend.
Now playing.....
Kacey Musgraves - Same Trailer Different Park
I first heard Kacey when she appeared on the NPR Tiny Desk, seen here, and loved her voice, lyrics, personality and the band was tremendous also. So I thought I would give this album a spin.
great performance/recording!
On vinyl...sounding great!!
On original vinyl...
This time I've gone for a random CD plucked from the shelves. I don't think I've heard this since the day my (then) other half persuaded me to buy it. What an odd record - there's some great stuff on it but it's very much an album of its time and an extremely mixed bag; perhaps, though, that is its pleasure...

Purely because I fancied a bit of ELO and I haven't listened to this for a very long while.
"A concept album about the fantastic world of dreams, Eldorado may be the Electric Light Orchestra's most fully realised recording. Combining the grand, sweeping vision that founders Jeff Lynne and Roy Wood first envisioned when they formed ELO, with the craftsmanship and outstanding production values that marked the mega-hit albums A New World Record and Out of the Blue, Eldorado is a near-perfect fusion of rock & roll with a full orchestra. While newcomers to the band won't necessarily find much here in terms of stand-out tracks, true ELO fans will know that this merely demonstrates the quality of the album as a coherent whole. Digitally remastered, it now sounds better than ever. -- Robert Burrow"

Never been released on CD, Steve. Scott hated this record and has never authorised a reissue. You can get most of the songs on the Classics & Collectables compilation though. Moviegoer is not his strongest album (really for the hardcore fans) but there is one gem - "The Ballad of Sacco and Vanzetti"; "That Night" is OK too.
On CD:-
Shelby Lynne & Allison Moorer - Not Dark Yet
We are going to see this at La Scala in October. To say we are looking forward to it is something of an understatement.
