Lucinda Williams - Sweet Old World
A mention from EWEMON above and a jump back to '92 and the release of the original 'Sweet Old World'
A recent visit to the NPR Tiny Desk can be viewed here. It is a four song (19:24) session featuring Lucinda from December 20, 2014. The album and the video are both worth the time to listen/view.
1985 Japanese vinyl. Recorded in thousands of studios with billions of musicians, this is the old lounge lizard at his most world-weary and expensive-sounding. Rather perfect for a Sunday evening...

Lucinda Williams - West
Another wonderful album, beautiful songs by Lucinda. Besides Lucinda, there is Bill Frisell and Doug Pettibone playing guitar, Tony Garner (double bass), Jim Keitner (drums), Rob Burger (organ, piano), Jim Keitner (Percussion), Robert Brophy (viola), Jenny Scheinman (violin), Gia Ciambotti and Gary Louris (backup vocals) on this album.
There is also a great article in the New Yorker here written back in June, 2000 which gives some great background on her life and impact on her songwriting.
If you are not familiar with Lucinda, she is worth your time to give a listen to a couple of her albums.
Richard Morris posted:Clive B posted:"Miles Plugs In" from BBC Radio 6 on iPlayer Radio. This is a two part documentary on Miles Davis's electric period. It throws a light on the recording process of (so far) 'In a Silent Way' and 'Bitches Brew'. Recommended listening.
Just listened, very good. A bit odd the way episode 1 switches to hip hop at about 26 minutes.
Yes, I thought that a bit odd too. I need to listen to part two.

Ewemon, what's your view on this vs original album? Better, worse, just different, need both?

Chris,
I started building my classical music collection in the late seventies and I was getting most of my LPs from Rose Records in Chicago which at the time was the largest record store on our planet. They had six huge floors crammed with music. Every month a particular label would go on sale and I remember my impatience, waiting for the Philips to go on special. On top of their great music selection the label's records always had a pristine sound with the least amount of surface noise. I used to buy them a dozen at a time.

So why are you referencing it on a public forum?

Lucinda Willams - Little Honey
Why ---- from the tidal review..... For starters, this is the most polished and studied record she's ever made. Produced by Eric Liljestrand and Tom Overby, its sound is utterly contemporary, though its forms are rooted in electric '70s rock as well as her fallbacks on blues and old-school Americana. The set opens with the rollicking "Real Love," with jangling, charging guitars by Doug Pettibone, and Rob Burger on Wurlitzer, and a backing chorus held down by the Bangles' Susanna Hoffs and Matthew Sweet. Its pop/rock bent is tempered by the roiling pace and Williams trademark Louisiana voice. But it's a startling introduction to an album that, while produced with a certain conscious flair, is the most loosely focused of her career in terms of her songwriting. ......Thom Jurek
Finishing up the third track at the moment, this is one sweet album.
