What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIII)

2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;
Bought this today from HMV in Sheffield to replace my snap, crackle & pop original. I have not been in HMV since the release of Blackstar, must say they have an awful lot of vinyl in stock, thought I had gone back to the late 80s before the death of vinyl!
More reasonably obscure vinyl. A bit of jazz harp and koto. Far out.
John Mellencamp - "Sad Clowns & Hillbillies" (2017)
Twelve tracks. Go figure. Fab and funky grooves.
A fine mastering job by Glenn Meadows who did a similarly grand job on the 'Citizen Steely Dan' box set.
John.

Melody Gardot - Worrisome Heart
Melody's voice is a very nice way to start a day! All four albums I have listened to would want to make you listen to another. She is definitely worth a listen.

Melody Gardot - The Absence
The journey continues exploring Melody's catalogue.
Notes from Tidal: If Melody Gardot's 2009 sophomore effort, My One and Only Thrill, sustained the sultry, atmospheric vibe of her critically acclaimed 2006 debut, her 2012 follow-up, The Absence, is a bit of a creative departure for the vocalist. Apparently inspired by her world travels, and specifically by a trip that brought her to the desert around the city of Marrakech, the album moves her away from smoky, small-group jazz and into a bright, if still bedroom-eyed, rhythmically exotic sound. Produced by guitarist/composer Heitor Pereira, the album is a lush, somewhat orchestral album that finds Gardot delving into various Brazilian, Spanish, and African-influenced sounds -- including bits of samba, tango, bossa nova, and calypso -- that evince her global journey. ....... ~ Matt Collar
Yes, this album is different for Gardot's normal style and it took me a few plays to get into it. Patience rewarded, though.
Portugal. The Man - "Woodstock" (2017)
I decided to change tack and switch from obscure artists to the merely relatively unknown. This is just a crappy old 1980s UK pressing but I do like the song "I've Got A Feeling" very much. and the LP sounds pretty good. Anyone know what happened to them? I suppose they've broken up by now...
Big Youth (DJ)- Screaming Target. Released in Jamaica in 1972 (1973 in UK), playing the Trojan CD issue from 1989. CD-rip.
Joe Cocker / With A Little Help From My Friends (1972 UK 20-track double LP repackaging of the two albums from 1969 & 1970. My original still has the price sticker on £4:50p
Two brilliant albums from a mighty a son of Sheffield.

Never quite made it K! Think they are now a tribute band, could be wrong.

Iron & Wine - Beast Epic
Something new for me and thought I would give it a listen.
A few tracks in, very pleasant vocals and easy listening.
Back from holiday only one way to start with my system again
Had this one on for the last part of the drive. Quite ok while I am not a fan of the band..

Fell in with the wrong crowd, I heard - some strange women (who couldn't sing), and some vicar who liked toy trains. Pity really, I think they might have made it. Shame Simon Cowell & co wasn't around at the time.
A Tull classic but most CD versions I heard have been disappointing until this one.
The Jamie Saft Trio Plays Bob Dylan, on Tzadik.
Sebastian Knaur - Bach and Sons 2.
Not only music from J.S. Bach but als very nice concertos from C.P.E. Bach and J.C. Bach.
Jakob Bro - Time
I thought I had better check this gentleman out to see what all the fuss is about so I am listening to this.
So far, so cool.
Oh, and as Kevin has updated his Sid Avatar, and as I am someone who does not like to be left behind, I have done likewise.

Just because right now, I can't get her out of my head.
