Dinner Jazz Excursion radio through the NDS - perfect for Saturday lunchtime and for those times when I can't decide what to listen to.

I recommend this to anyone with a love for jazz.

   Yello - Touch.

   Why?

Well, on a sunny afternoon, such as this, I ought to be outside getting some exercise, but I'm actually inside, giving the old drum kit

a  severe hammering to this, which is just as effective, and much more enjoyable than the recommended 10,000 steps per day.

Did anyone else see the BBC Proms last night, featuring Jools Holland's Big Band, in a Stax revue, with, among others, Steve Cropper, Booker T, Eddie Floyd, Sam Moore and William Bell?

If not, it's available for the next 29 days on BBC iPlayer ................ worth the licence fee alone.

Now Playing......

Bill Evans - Affinity

Bill Evans - Affinity

Another recent hi-res download, some beautiful music on a beautiful Saturday morning!

Posted on: 02 September 2017 by nigelb

John Mellencamp - Sad Clowns & Hillbillies.

Bit mixed but some decent tracks and JM's gruff voice is beautifully complemented by Carlene Carter.

BTW, this was one of those imminent release 'heads up' alerts from Ewe I seem to remember, which I find very helpful in knowing what to look out for. And there is always Tidal to try before you buy.

Perfik way to sample new stuff!

Mighty Mo Rodgers - Blues Is My Wailin' Wall

Listening to this for a second time and have realised it is a belter. Far from straight up blues with hints of soul and trance mixed in for good measure, this is infectious.

I can't remember who first posted this but great shout.

Just ordered on The River, for not much money at all, which is just as well, since this topic can empty the wallet very quickly.

Great shout, nigelb.

Misc - Misc

Good modern jazz.

From their own website:

Jazz band Misc (formerly known as Trio Jérôme Beaulieu, and named Radio-Canada’s Breakthrough Jazz artist for 2013-2014) released their self-titled album on March 18th, 2016 via Bonsound.

The new album is the result of a true collaboration between the three musicians. In a more elaborate way than the two previous albums, they each contributed to the rythmic, melodic and harmonic arrangements to create an unique sound that sets this trio apart from the rest.

All three artists set the foundations of Misc during a residency at the Equivocal Manor in Burgundy (France). Pianist Jérôme Beaulieu, lover of the great outdoors, contributes majestic melodies to the project. Drummer William Côté adds a subtle, spirited rhythm while double bassist Philippe Leducbrings out the playfulness of each track.
