What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIII)

2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;

This is indeed my favourite DK album, closely followed by Love Scenes, but I believe I am in a minority with this as a favourite. DK co-wrote the songs on TGITOR with her husband Elvis Costello who have her the confidence to write. I actually particularly like the last few tracks on the album.
Not so Nigel, ask me for a favourite DK album & it's like being told to stand in a corner in a round room. My favourite DK is entirely mood dependant, I start with one then I play another, then I drift into the classic american song book, NKC, Sinatra & the songs of Porter, Berlin ... too many to mention ....... magic ....... One of these nights I will play them all end to end. It will be an early start & with a few glasses of mellow red & reminiscent deviations listening to the original artists, it will be a late finish.
Perhaps I should ask if there are any ways of buying all her CDs as a collection.
Phil
Been listening all morning to the 4 CD box set (as ripped to HDX) of Buffalo Springfield to break in my recently recapped 52/Supercap. The recaps are taking some time to settle in, but seems to be an improvement.
This and it is fantastic. the download of the vinyl as my turntable is down at present but still fantastic.
Count Basie & Orch. - On The Road. From 1979 in Montreux, a 1981 Grammy winner! CD-rip.
Yello - Stella (Remastered).
The end of today's Yello session, time to put the drumsticks down and have a welcome cold beer ............. I'm knackered, but it's a
great way to get some exercise.

Is "Can't find my way home" with Clapton?

She never released a 'box set' if thats what you mean. Different record labels make that a bit challenging.

Do you know if this is available anywhere ?
Thanks
Amazon stil sells it, but at a crazy price.
It's on the mosaic label which have released some great box set. Unfortunately most of them are limited editions.

Many of her albums are going for peanuts secondhand on the big South American river. Fill your boots!
CD. Pahud, Langlamet, Meyer, Abbado - Mozart
Donald Byrd - Byrd in Hand
Time for some classic Blue Note jazz.
From Allmusic.com
For this excellent album, trumpeter Donald Byrd teams up with tenor saxophonist Charlie Rouse, baritonist Pepper Adams, pianist Walter Davis, Jr., bassist Sam Jones and drummer Art Taylor. Together the sextet performs three Byrd originals, two Davis songs and the standard "Witchcraft." Although none of the new tunes caught on, the group (which includes two distinctive saxophonists and the rapidly maturing trumpet of Donald Byrd) plays consistently creative and spirited solos in the hard bop idiom.
Willie Dixon - Poet of the Blues.
A great selection of music from Willie Dixon, writer and producer of so many blues standards.
As the title says, "poet of the blues" .................... oh yeah.

Listening to this for a second time and have realised it is a belter. Far from straight up blues with hints of soul and trance mixed in for good measure, this is infectious.
I can't remember who first posted this but great shout.
Just ordered on The River, for not much money at all, which is just as well, since this topic can empty the wallet very quickly.
Great shout, nigelb.
I know what you mean Dave. Just read your post, went straight to the river and bought Mighty Mo Rodgers and 5 other CDs I had previously checked out on Tidal. Only cost £30 in total including delivery and my UnitiServe doesn't know or care if the CDs I feed it are new or second hand. And because I have already listened to these CDs on Tidal, I know they are all belters (IMO).
The great thing is, as long as the condition is reasonable, second hand CDs sound the same as new versions when ripped and all the cover art and sleeve notes you need are suddenly on the iPad at a touch of a button. Some great CDs to be had for very little money, occasionally pennies and I have never had a dud second hand CD bought from the river.
This streaming thing is pretty cool don't you think!
(1970)
Always like returning to these boys and the twin lead guitars of Andy Powell and Ted Turner.
Great music for a reflective beautiful afternoon.
William Bell - This Is Where I Live.
Following last night's Staxfest on the Beeb, (available on iPlayer for the next 29 days), some great soul singing from William.
I know I've pushed this album before, but I really can't recommend it highly enough.

I agree this is a belter and was listening to it this evening.

Yes, there's some out and out bargains in second hand CD's to be had on The River.
Following last night's Staxfest on the Beeb, four James Morrison albums for just over a fiver + postage .......... a steal!
Like you, I've never had dud yet, and, after all, they're only required to play OK the once, for ripping ............ and yes, this streaming malarkey is brilliant.
Now playing.......
Mighty Mo Rodgers - Blues is My Wallin' Wall
A couple of mentions from NigelB and Dave Marshall caught my attention and thought I would take Mighty Mo Rodgers out for a spin. Into the third track and Mo has certainly grabbed my attention.
