What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIII)

2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;
Donald Byrd - A new perspective
From allmusic.com:
This unusual set was one of the most successful uses of a gospel choir in a jazz context. Trumpeter Donald Byrd and a septet that includes tenor saxophonist Hank Mobley, guitarist Kenny Burrell, and pianist Herbie Hancock are joined by an eight-voice choir directed by Coleridge Perkinson. The arrangements by Duke Pearson are masterful and one song, "Cristo Redentor," became a bit of a hit. This is a memorable effort that is innovative in its own way, a milestone in Donald Byrd's career.

Listening to this for a second time and have realised it is a belter. Far from straight up blues with hints of soul and trance mixed in for good measure, this is infectious.
I can't remember who first posted this but great shout.
Just ordered on The River, for not much money at all, which is just as well, since this topic can empty the wallet very quickly.
Great shout, nigelb.
I know what you mean Dave. Just read your post, went straight to the river and bought Mighty Mo Rodgers and 5 other CDs I had previously checked out on Tidal. Only cost £30 in total including delivery and my UnitiServe doesn't know or care if the CDs I feed it are new or second hand. And because I have already listened to these CDs on Tidal, I know they are all belters (IMO).
The great thing is, as long as the condition is reasonable, second hand CDs sound the same as new versions when ripped and all the cover art and sleeve notes you need are suddenly on the iPad at a touch of a button. Some great CDs to be had for very little money, occasionally pennies and I have never had a dud second hand CD bought from the river.
This streaming thing is pretty cool don't you think!
Glad you guys are enjoying it. Personally I don't think he made a better album.
(1986)
Many of Bad Companies best tracks and (being an early CD) the SQ is very good indeed.
Volume 4 of this wonderful series of albums, released a couple of days ago.

That's dedication!
Cheers Ewen.
UB 40 - Present Arms.
Reggae lite, I know, but it's still a great album, and, having seen them at Scarborough Open Air Theatre a few weeks ago, I'm just
indulging in a wee nostalgia fest.
I like when i step into something like this. Makes me feel better.
Sounds like a nice pair of trousers.
Signing off for this evening, off to rewatch last night's Staxfest from the Beeb, which I've recorded.
Just a reminder that it's available for the next 29 days on iPlayer, an absolute "must watch" for all you soul boys (and girls) out there.
Currently watching, Steve Cropper guitar playing is real sweet perfection.
Like HungryHalibut......, a great collection has another volume...
Cd rip, Massive Attack "Mezzanine"
Am working my way through this wonderful vinyl box set containing Ferit Odman's first three albums. If you enjoy modern, lyrical jazz, this is a must listen IMO. Very high quality pressings from Pallas GmbH - Germany. Great music and excellent sound quality!
And the box set also includes three tiny records for miniature turntables! Ok...they're actually coasters.

Please see for me if her hair hangs long
If it rolls and flows all down her breast
Please see for me if her hair hangs long
For that's the way I remember her best

William Bell - This is Where I Live
Once again I am going with the mentions from Dave Marshall and NigelB which caught my eye and thought I would take William Bell out for a spin. Into the third track and William certainly has a powerful & sweet voice, plus great music! Thank you Dave & Nigel ........ now keep on collaborating and pump out some more winners!

You can see Chris perform three of the songs on this album here when he performed on the NPR Tiny Desk on November 5, 2015.
- "More Of You"
- "When The Stars Come Out"
- "Whiskey And You"
He is also joined by his wife Morgane during a couple of the songs. A great songwriter, with a wonderful voice and musician.

William Bell - Midnight Trains
Selected 'Other Albums' on Tidal for William Bell and clicked on 'Midnight Trains' and walked in the kitchen to make a cup of coffee. Soon realized this is a different William Bell.....
.....what the heck, just going to finish the album.
Nathan Davis - If. CD-rip. From 1976, just seems to suit this Saturday night.

I first heard this guy on the car radio doing "Born Under A Bad Sign" a long time favourite of mine via Albert King and Cream.
Wow, the best version ever, maybe not surprising once I'd done some research, and discovered that he was the writer of this song.
If you liked the album version, then try this ...........even better, IMHO.
Enjoy!

William Bell - New Lease On Life
....back to William Bell with the soul! This man has sweet voice.....

Is "Can't find my way home" with Clapton?
Hi Gianluigi, no, all the tracks are 'just' Steve and his band. It is a recording of songs on his recent tours but there is no information with the album or on his website about where etc! But it certainly isn't with Clapton.
