You can see Chris perform three of the songs on this album here when he performed on the NPR Tiny Desk on November 5, 2015.

  • "More Of You"
  • "When The Stars Come Out"
  • "Whiskey And You"

He is also joined by his wife Morgane during a couple of the songs. A great songwriter, with a wonderful voice and musician.

'Whiskey And You' gets me every time. What a song, what a voice, what an album.

Chopin's Ballades & Scherzos interpreted by Rubinstein. Recorded in March and April 1959 in Manhattan Center for RCA Living Stereo. Downloaded in 24/176 WAV from HDTracks. A marvelous play, another great recording of the label. Full timbres, clear attacks, delicate touch and extinctions of notes, neither too bright nor too mat. It is on my desert island USB stick. :D

Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen - The Unforgettable NHOP trio live

From allmusic.com

Niels Pedersen became one of the most heralded jazz bassists of his generation, playing with Bud Powell and Sonny Rollins while gaining international acclaim for his many recordings with Oscar Peterson. But the phenomenal bassist, whose sound is readily identifiable with a note or two, especially shined as a leader. This live CD documents a pair of concerts with guitarist Ulf Wakenius (who also worked with Peterson) and drummer Jonas Johansen, the first five tracks from 1999 and the last six from Pedersen's final recorded concert in March 2005, just a few weeks before his sudden death from a heart attack. The first set shows the bassist's many musical interests, blending his intricate solo arrangement of a piece by Baroque composer Johann Sebastian Bach with his own mellow "Memories," a brisk samba treatment of the standard "The Song Is You," Wakenius' up-tempo cooker "Lines" and a subtle but virtuoso setting of "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square." The latter performance fits seamlessly with the one from six years earlier. The intricate interplay between Pedersen and Wakenius is amazing in "You and the Night and the Music," with Johansen's alternating between brushes and sticks. Their inventive approach to Charlie Parker's "My Little Suede Shoes" is another highlight, while Pedersen's love of his homeland is evident in a pair of lush arrangements of folk songs from Denmark and Scandinavia. This superb release wraps with an easygoing setting of "Our Love Is Here to Stay" in which both Pedersen and Wakenius dazzle the audience with their formidable technique. Both concerts are intimately recorded and this is easily one of Niels Pedersen' best CDs as a leader.

Bill Frisell - Big Sur

Bill Frisell - Big Sur

A snippet of the review on Tidal: "Big Surprise collects 19 individual pieces in a suite commissioned by the Monterey Jazz Festival. He spent 10 days in retreat at Big Sup's Glen Deven Ranch, where he composed most of it. His band on this date includes his 858 Quarted, Jerry Scheinman (violin), Eyvind King (viola), Hank Roberts (cello) and his drummer Rudy Royston. ........ On Big Sur, Fisell delivers an inspired musical portrayal of the land, sky, sea, and wildlife of the region with majesty, humor, and true sophistication." - Thom Jurek

A Grammy winner for Best Contemporary Jazz Album in 2005.

This is something a bit different from Bill but considering you can find his work on rock, country, bluegrass, along with the different styles of jazz, this album fits right in his wheelhouse. I find it quite enjoyable and certainly worth the time to give it a listen.

William Bell - This is Where I Live

William Bell - This is Where I Live

Once again I am going with the mentions from Dave Marshall and NigelB which caught my eye and thought I would take William Bell out for a spin. Into the third track and William certainly has a powerful & sweet voice, plus great music!  Thank you Dave & Nigel ........ now keep on collaborating and pump out some more winners!

I first heard this guy on the car radio doing "Born Under A Bad Sign" a long time favourite of mine via Albert King and Cream.

Wow, the best version ever, maybe not surprising once I'd done some research, and discovered that he was the writer of this song.

If you liked the album version, then try this ...........even better, IMHO.

Enjoy!

I did a search on Born Under a Bad Sign and there were a lot of videos of musicians who have 'covered' "Born Under a Bad Sign." I listened to about half dozen of then including: Gary Clark Jr & John Mayer, Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy & Koko Taylor, Jimi Hendrix, Mellisa Etheridge, and Peter Green.  One of those songs that may have made a songwriter wealthy!

Now playing 'The Royal Scam'. Probably my favourite SD album. I recall spending way too many hours learning the two guitar solos from Kid Charlemaine. This album is class all the way.
