What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XIII)

2017 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread can be found here;
These are some of the albums I was listening when I was away for a week and one or two from last night.
Before Norah Art during workout...
Dunedin Consort - Bach: Brandenburg concertos
Enjoying it in High Resolution Audio....
The xx - I See You very quietly as I work.
Lacks the drama of a warm Summer evening when the needle just seems to track so well and cold Chablis is not the only perfume. Sounds like I'm dissing it which I'm not. It's a real favourite.

Sometimes words say more than pictures... posts like this make me want to listen to an album, album covers don't...
The National - Sleep Well Beast
Meanwhile I'm listening to this. Some good tracks but hasn't hooked me yet. Perhaps the trilogy of Sad Songs For Dirty Lovers, Alligator, and Boxer will be their crowning triptych for me.
A great listen in high resolution...
B.B. King - Blues on top of the blues
From allmusic.com:
This isn't his most well-known stuff, but it's a very solid late '60s set. Featuring brassy arrangements by Johnny Pate (who also worked with many prominent Chicago soul acts during the '60s), it presents King's sound at its fullest without sacrificing any of his grit or sophisticated swing. No famous classics here, but the material is very strong throughout.
Currently enjoying the title track from this PF compilation.
More PF. The first time I played this I thought it wasn't as bad as people were saying on here and elsewhere. I was just about to say that I'm now inclined to agree, but it does have its moments, so I won't write it off completely, but then I don't think I'll be playing it that frequently either.
Reading that again I suppose it could be said that I'm undecided!
Frank Woeste trio - Untold stories
Frank Woeste: piano, Fender Rhodes | Mathias Allamane: bass | Matthieu Chazarenc: drums.
Three wonderful singers, caught near their prime, in an opera they were born to sing - but the recording doesn't gel and in this case, the sum is decidedly less than the parts.
Cheers,
EJ
Playing this again. My favourite track on here currently is 'Pariah' which features Ninet Tayeb on vocal. I'm sure she could sing the phone book and make it sound brilliant.
On vinyl. Got it today. First impression: very favourable!
Claude Debussy (1862-1918): Walter Gieseking (piano)
The Piano Works
The amazing thing about Walter Gieseking (if you believe the legendary stories) is that he practiced very little. In fact, it is said he could learn an entire concerto in a day, away from the piano, by just studying the score.
Christian 'The Dude' Tetzlaff's third recording of the Bach works for solo violin are, according to himself, the result of more familiarity with and freedom to interpret the score. First run.
Cheers

No pic but going to through my recently deceased bros collection of reel to reel tapes today I came across a Dub tape of an unreleased Ralph Mctell album recorded in '76 with Shel Talmy on the desk.
There is a whole heap of others I will have to check out as there is no artist name on them but one is recorded in Trident Studios in 74.
So I have dug out an old Transatlantic album of Ralph's for listening to.
(1973)
From a lovely sounding original (1988) Warner Bros. CD, a well trodden path to start off the weekend.
Zhu Xiao-Mej - Bach: 6 partitas
Very good recording of Bach's partitas.
Trying out via Tidal...
Playing a lot of vinyl today and reminded just how good it can sound. This, the first Genesis Revisited studio album from Steve Hackett, sounds big!
